Lots of people ask us all the time "How Do I Get Started In Astronomy" ? The answer is very simple, go outside and look up. Every one thinks you need lots of expensive equipment to get started, the best way is a pair of Binoculars. Almost everyone has a set laying around the house. A pair of Binoculars gives you a very large field of view, and almost triples the view you can see with the naked eye. You get wide field of views so lots more stars show up in Binoculars. You can use what you have laying around the house or you can get a good pair for anywhere around $20.00 to $400.00 or more. You can get a nice pair for around $250.00, a set of 25 X 100. Which means that they have a power of 25 with a 100 mm objective lens. If you want to get into Astronomy a little more you can get yourself a good Telescope. I would suggest you come out to one of our Star Party's and talk to the members about their scopes. We love to help new Astronomers. We will answer any question you might have and also let you view thru our scopes.( Make sure to ask first about viewing thru scopes. You need to know a few main points before attempting to view thru a scope). We always have people that just purchased new scope tell us. " I just bought this new scope and I think there is something wrong with it , I can't see anything thru it ". We always tell them , that's because the area you are look at in the night sky is about the size of a pin head held at arm length. Then they go WOW. So once you learn where to look and what to look at, it makes looking at the night sky much more interesting. |
