The Movie
Spike - "It's your move."
Jet - "Don't rush me"
[Jet moves his Pawn]
[Jet instantly moves his Bishop]
Jet - "Hmmm, Do you plan your moves?"
Spike - "Just hurry up."
Jet - "Listen, Spike. In Shogi, Japanese Chess you look 100 moves ahead, then make your play." [Spike yawns] "You head off your opponent's attack. That's how you play. You don't just move at random. I want to move here." [Points to Spike's Bishop]
Spike - "Take your finger off, and you've moved."
Jet - "You're far too easygoing. Now, listen, Spike. One's character merges in Shogi. You obviously react to each move."
Spike - "Hurry up. Move."
Jet - "What would you have done if you'd hit the hostage?"
Spike - "I'd have dealth with it."
Jet - "It was too risky for a measly 1.25 million bounty. There's no drama in bounty hunting. Before you became my partner life was much quieter." [Ein, the dog flips Jet's Rook] "Good, I was considering that myself. Well Spike?" [Spike is alseep]
My comments are on this game are - The artists obviously did not take the time and effort to make this game 'realistic'. My diagrams are based upon 3 different pictures of the Shogi board in the anime. The first picture shows middle section of the board only. All the pieces are moved by one row from the dots that divide up the board, from my diagram. In the last picture the pieces are in the same position in relation to the dots as they are see in my diagram. However in that last picture in the anime, Jet's silver general is missing. Also Spike's Silver General which is closest to the center is missing. Neither of them could have been taken because the only moves are the three I've shown above. Spike's comments about, 'if Jet takes his finger off then it's consider a move', is also bogus. Jet is pointing to Spike's Bishop. Obviously Jet is not allowed to move Spikes pieces. Rather Jet is indicating the square that he wished to drop a piece onto (none of the pieces on the board can move to that square). But Jet cannot move there now because Spike has placed his Bishop there. Which is actually a useful tip, sometimes it is handy to place one of your pieces on a square that would be good for your opponent to drop their pieces on, thus stopping them from making the drop. Finally the move that the dog makes is utter rubbish. Remember in the anime for some reason they didn't draw the Silver General below the Rook, so in the anime at that point the Rook is guarded by nothing and so Spike could take it for free with his Bishop. It would have been better for Jet to have moved his Rook to take Spike's knight and promoting his Rook to a Dragon.
