Rock Villa Cottage
Holiday Accomodations in the West of County Mayo
I had to start off with this picture. Hopefully, you remember the rock from the first page. Now we have done a 180 degree turn and are looking out towards America. First we see the rock. Then the Louisburgh road is right past the fence. Turn right and go straight to Louisburgh. Then some farmland and cows to keep you company. And then before some blue about 1/4 mile away is one of the spotless blue flag beaches this part of the country is known for. Tremendous surfing is found there. And then that blue is the West Coast of the Atlantic Ocean and that island far away is Clare Island. See the website for more about the last fortress before the Atlantic Ocean. There are daily ferries from Roonah Quay to take you there as the Saw Doctors song goes. At present, you can download completely free live versions of "Clare Island" and "The Green and Red of Mayo" from their site.
Here is the no less spectacular view from the left of the front of the house. The island on the far left is Inishturk. There are a few sheep just ahead grazing. It is about 2 1/2 miles to the Silver Strand and the White Strand is about 4 miles up the road. And if you crave excitement, the Delphi Adventure Center is about 15 miles south of this spot near the Mayo/Galway border. Click on the link for their respective websites, but don't forget to come back.
The white building up ahead is Killeen Church. Way in the distance is Croagh Patrick, "The Reek", the mountain
St. Patrick climbed and so many devoted climb every summer. Click on the link to take a virtual pilgrimage if you can't make it to Mayo or just don't want to be bothered climbing. Croagh Patrick is probably less than 15 miles away. The lovely 800 year old Georgian town of
Westport is about five miles past that.
Keep in mind that there is plenty to do in the area. Fishing, golfing boating, mountain climbing, swimming, surfing, and then best of all relaxing. After a few days in the area, you may not want to leave. You can get in touch with us three ways:
