His open-handed playing style has influenced me to think in directions that I did not consider when I thought in "traditional" lines
Playing large tom sizes at very flat angles gave me inspiration to emulate the approach

Lastly, his backwards grip on the stick has shown me a way to get maximum volume out of a drum
