| JENDEEN ALL THE PRETTY HORSES/WOLVERINES |

| I first saw The Horses on new year's eve 2001/02 and instantly became a big fan. They combined so many things that I had not seen in many bands. They were dark and sensual yet powerful and heavy. I had never seen a band that was so agressive and yet balanced it with a delicate touch. I immediately bought the CD "Ruin" and listened to it over and over. I then realised the core of this band was the incredible drumming of Jendeen. She posesses and incredible level of technique and tempers it with a maturity that never lets it get out of hand. My biggest gripe with drummers that had such chops is that they let it turn into math rock and overplay constantly. She played very complex drum lines, yet they seemed to fit well and never overpowered the rest of the music. I traveled out of town with them and within 2 hours, Jen and I had become good friends. I thought Jen was good at that point until she invited me to come see her jazz band The Wolverines. If I had thought she was a good drummer before, I saw levels of the depth of her playing multiply exponentially as Jen performed extremely adept and subtle Jazz chops that I could barely decifer at times. I have had some great conversations with her and enjoy tapping the wealth of knowledge and experience she has made available to me. I am proud to say that Jen has become a good friend and we sometimes push each other into areas that we would not normally consider. A friendly rivalry has sprouted and we tend to perform well when the other is around. She made me think more technically and I pushed her to become more agressive I would venture to say that Jendeen is one of the greatest drummers I have ever met and a great friend. |
