Henry Rollins--Unwelcomed Songs

This book is a collection of lyrics written by Henry from 1980 to 1992. It's an 8x11 size book available in hardcover and paperback. If you have not seen any of Rollins' books, they are generally high quality and look great. This is especially true with his label's "coffee table" books which include "Get In The Van" and books by other authors/photographers. This is no exception.

The cover is bright orange with a photo of Rollins with blood trickling down his head. This is from a show in Brazil where Rollins foolishly knocked himself out bending down from the waist and kicking his leg up. The back photo is a really cool photo of Rollins singing into a mic being held out by Glenn Danzig, in the early 1980s (Misfts era). Brilliant.

Currently, this book is $10 softcover from 21361. Don't be a goddamn fool, if you are a Rollins fan, buy it now. And while you're at it, go to the "sale" section and fill up your cart. The label has a ton of great stuff.

This is probably the first thing I've read that Rollins has openly talked about his time in S.O.A. You get the bands' complete lyrics, tons of flyers and photos, and some of the lyrics are even reprints of handwritten pages.

Black Flag follows--tons of great photos and lyrics included in this section. This is really great for the fan because you not only get the lyrics but you get "Working Notes" which is Rollins giving a bit of background on what was going on in his mind when he wrote them.

After Black Flag broke up, Rollins Band did not immediately start, Rollins put together a temporary band and put out "Hot Animal Machine" under the name Henry Rollins...it was a breif period but it was given it's own chapter (completion, I love it)..this book is a fan's dream, I have to say. Background on the band, more "working notes" and a bit more "production notes" as well where Rollins talks about the recording process.

Next up is the actual beginning of Rollins Band. All sorts of lyrics and unseen photos follow. This is really the first part of the book where there's a lot of lyrics to songs that haven't been released.

The history continues, Rollins seems to be getting bitter about the fact that the band is developing tensions and isn't afraid to talk about it.

If you are a Rollins fan but have been turned off by most of the ramblings he puts out, then this is for you. Most of (if not all) the lyrics he wrote up to 1992, tons of photos you've never seen before, and a great history of the band. Nothing could make this one better and I look forward to the next volume.
