SUNN O)))–WHITE2

The packaging
The good
A strange sliver on white art piece graces the cover. The inside has band photos and all the basic recording information. It's a bit cryptic and quite appropriate.

The bad
With something like this you don’t really need much, so it’s fine.

The music
Normally, I like to do a “The Good vs. The Bad” in my reviews, but sometimes you just can’t. This is one of those. I also don’t like to review each track, but there’s only three so I’ll do that. I’m sure you’ll be okay.

Track one is entitled HELL-O)))-WEEN. It basically sounds like...well...imagine being on a freight train, in the middle of the night, in the middle of the engine car. The train is sludging along, it’s loud and almost painful but soothing at the same time. This is what the fourteen minutes of this track is like.

Track two is “bassAliens.” Ever see that movie “Fire in the Sky”? Where the guy is abducted by aliens and the movie moves really slow until the last fifteen minutes where the show the guy waking up on the spaceship and just being confused out of his mind. This would’ve been the perfect soundtrack. When I listen to this, that is the only think I can imagine...waking up in some weird cocoon on some sort of alien craft. The soundtrack to your nightmare. 23 minutes long.

Track three is DECAY2 [NIHILS’ MAW]. You know how you’re in the spaceship? Well, the aliens figured you woke up and they’re pissed. They eventually catch you, tie you up, and perform a bizarre Satanic seeming ritual on you, only they’re aliens so can it really be satanic? 25 minutes long.

In case you didn’t catch on, this band doesn’t play “songs.” I’m not entirely sure of the point of this...why you’d think to create this sort of thing and record it is beyond me. Then again, people like me buy it...but then again the only reason people like me buy it is because it’s used and cheap. This is a CD I’ll keep and from time to time I’ll throw on...maybe to set a mood on a road trip, in the middle of the night, when no other cars are on the road. Then about 45 seconds in I’ll get too creeped out and turn it off.

Creepy, slow, disturbing, noisy, eerie.

Recap
It is what it is. If this sounds even remotely interesting to you, pick it up...I’ll bet you enjoy it. Otherwise, move on.
