Social Distortion – Live in Orange County DVD

First (official) live Social D footage since Another State of Mind, and long over due I might add!!!

I was cruisin’ on their site just the other day and came across a news posting for this DVD.  I got excited and realized the date was very near for the release.  I hauled ass out to …a store… and bought it.  We here at RPZ do not get any free ‘stuff’ from bands, we are merely fans who buy way more than we can afford.  That having been said, I bought this DVD the day it came out (7-27-04) and will review it for you right now.

Given that Social D haven’t put an album out in almost 10 years, we have to thrive on the 2 releases they have given us since, the live album and this.  According to their site, the new album is in post-production but who knows when it will be released.  Now, I found this DVD at a major store, so you should be able to find it almost anywhere.

The DVD comes with the live show and a handful of extras at a very decent price.  The concert is from January 19, 2003 and clocks in at over 70 minutes.  Social D play 2 new songs in this show and Mike Ness continuously promises to have a new album out by the end of the year, he mentions it a couple times during the concert and once or twice during an interview extra.  However, we hare more than half way through 2004 and still no new album.

In any case, this is a great live show by a band that tours 2 cities in California continuously, but never anywhere else.  The 2 new songs, ‘Footprints on My Ceiling’ and ‘I Wasn’t Born to Follow,’ pick up exactly where White Light White Heat White Trash left off.  ‘Footprints’ is a slower love-type song and ‘Follow’ is a faster punk song raving about being in a rock band and being original.  Other ‘hits’ including in their set are; ‘1945,’ ‘Don’t Drag Me Down,’ ‘The Creeps,’ ‘Bad Luck,’ and of course, ‘Story of My Life.’  You shouldn’t be let down if you’re any type of Social Distortion fan.  They put on a great live show, as documented on the DVD, and they add some cool extras such as a soundcheck performance and how to play a dice game. Ha.  The price is cheap enough to the point where if you only own 1 Soc. D album, you’ll want to buy this.  Until then, keep praying for a new record before the end of the year… of 2004.
