Rush – Feedback EP

I’m not the biggest Rush fan, nor would I really call myself a fan, however, they have kicked out some great tunes in the past and are definitely in a class by themselves.  And for that, they deserve our respect.

The new EP entitled Feedback is a collection of covers.  Rush supposedly never played any covers on any albums or live, I’m sure their extreme early years are exception.  In 2004, they are celebrating their 30th year together as Rush and decided to return to their roots and perform some covers for their big tour.  They had so much fun with it that they put 8 songs together for this release.

The Packaging:

It is very simple, cardboard case.  The cover is psychedelic like with the Rush name and symbol at the top with the list of songs on the front and back.

The Music:

This definitely has the Rush touch but without losing any of the power and influence of the originals.  Rush pays great homage to these songs.  The songs are all from the mid to late sixties.  They cover the Who, Yardbirds, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and they mix up a version of Summertime Blues by adding the ingredients of Eddie Cochran, the Who and Blue Cheer.

If you like Rush, even a little bit, you should buy this album.  These were great songs originally and Rush does them just as well, if not better in some cases.  This is an EP though, so it is only 27 minutes long.  That does mean a cheap CD though so it is a great impulse buy.
