The good:
A live photo of David graces the cover, the digipak opens to a single panel with thanks and a track listing. The back is a circa 1974 photo of David. Also included is a New York Post article wtih David's comments on inaccuracies in the article.
The bad:
No real complaints...this is one of those higher quality digipaks where the teeth don't really seem to be breakable so I'm in. With a comedy album, I don't really think you need much, so this does the job.
The music:
The good:
Well, David Cross is a comedian that you either love or hate. He is a smart ass who is completely condescending. This is my preferred style of comedy, so I'm a fan.
For example, in a bit, he says something along the lines that dogs are smarter than women" and then says that he did tests to prove his point. A woman, apparently offended, says something to him (that you can't hear on the disc). He replies, not verbatim: What I'm saying now is what we call...a joke. He totally talks down to her, being a complete dick.
To me, that's good fucking comedy, so I enjoy it.
I prefer not to go into too much detail with what is actually on here because half of the fun of a comedy album is not know what's next.
Some stuff on here is absolutely hilarious; rarely, but sometimes the material misses its mark. His comments on people talking about their kids, or the "Light Up Atlanta" celebration, 9/11, and Republicans. Cross has a big liberal slant to his politics and mocks Republicans in an over-the-top manner. If you have any love for the right wing, then Cross is not your comedian. If you feel topics like 9/11 should be off limit to comedians, he's not your man. And if you think that racial/sexist/homophobic slurs should never be used, even when used ironically, he's going to piss you off.
I'm a left-winger...I don't eat meat, think drug offenses are too severely punished, but violence against women isn't punished enough...I am not a fan of Christianity, I think the Catholic Church is one of the most fucked up and backwards institutions in the world. The pope comes out and bashes gays and says they shouldn't marry, he holds back women's role in the church...Bishops refuse to give communion to gays who wear a rainbow sash to church...yet they turn their heads when their fellow priests fuck young children. I think Republicans are cruel, thoughtless, greedy, self-serving assholes who are ruining this country, and I think most people in this country are borderline retarded. David Cross speaks to me. He is an elitist liberal who will speak down to you if you don't agree...I'm fine with that. I like his style and I love this album.
The bad--
It's too short but it's cheap, so there you go. Topical humor becomes dated so it doesn't age well, but this does still remain laugh out loud funny after several listens.
