ROCK POKER RADIO Created by Reverend Dan Buhler & Insect Surfer Dave Arnson
ROCK POKER RADIO is a musical game of Rock and Roll Knowledge and Kicking Out The Jams. It is a game played on Reverend Dan's MUSIC FOR NIMRODS radio program, heard late late Friday night, early early Saturday morning from 3am till 6am, on Los Angeles' most bitchin' radio station, KXLU 88.9FM. Four players battle it out to find the best Rock and Roll song within an artfully selected category (i.e: Best Rock and Roll Song about a Real Guy, Best Rock and Roll Song With A Horrible Singer, Most Annoying Moment In An Otherwise Great Record, etc.) Read on:
1. These rules are not cast in stone and may be changed at any moment. In fact, many of the rules have already been changed.
2. Reverend Dan is the host of ROCK POKER RADIO, and he always gets to play.
3. A game of Rock Poker Radio consists of six or more "hands". Each "hand" consists of (up to) five musical selections,
each selected by a player as their "best card" in a given category.
4. The Dealer calls the category of each hand. Reverend Dan will deal three times, while the other players will each deal a hand.
5. About a month before airtime, players are selected and given time to think up the category of their hand.
6. Two weeks before airtime, Reverend Dan will email the players the categories of his three hands.
This will give the other players time to scour their music libraries for their "best card" in the given categories.
Selections must be on vinyl, cd or cassette.
7. One week before airtime, the players must have sent all other players their selected category, giving all at least one week to look for their "best card".
8. On the day of the show, players will arrive, with their music selections, before the 3am airtime.
Otherwise, the other players will badmouth the tardy player on the air.
9. All are introduced on the air, and are given time to chat and plug various projects.
10. Reverend Dan deals the first "hand", and introduces the category. He then plays his selection.
All other players selections for the category are then played.
11. Afterwards, the players all debate and argue about which song was the best.
There is much rejoycing.
12. Hands will alternate between Reverend Dan and the guest players.
13. The winner? Rock and Roll fans who bother to tune in!
