Sa mga kapamilya't kapatid sa pananampalataya...

Hindi naman sa nagyayabang (pero nagyayabang na rin...) Ito ang ilang tips kung papano manalo sa ROC playfest. Based on experience lang...hehehe

HOW TO WIN THE ROC PLAYFEST

  1. Make sure your script goes along with the theme.
Of course all of us have great concepts, magnificent ideas, radical innovations, and wild experiments which we would love to be staged. However, ROC has set a theme and we must tell our stories according to that theme. This is where art comes in... containing our limitless universe of the imagination to a set of parameters called rules...

  2. The play must be stageable.
This is a basic rule in scriptwriting, which is neglected, by the way, by most Palanca winners in the past decades. But we are not joining the Palancas. We are competing in the ROC playfest and we do not want to give our directors a hard time interpreting the script. Also, do not put scenes that are only executable in film. Remember, this is theater! Keep in mind the resources available... do not think of special effects you cannot afford... like light sabers and laser guns of sorts... (di ba lloyd?)

  3. Maximize your groupmates
Traditionally, the script is written first and then the director casts. But in the ROC playfest, the skill of the writer is tested... whether he can provide roles for his groupmates without sacrificing the artistry of the script... and without taking any group member for granted. The more people who act on stage... the better. Hindi lang on stage. Dapat maximized lahat pati off-stage people. Ang importante, mahasa ang team-work at lahat ng tao gumagalaw.

  4. Play with the theme
ROC has set a very dynamic theme which is ll. There are millions of interpretations to it. The wilder, the better. (Note: for Playfest 2004, the theme is "Lipad".)

  5. ENJOY
Just make sure your group enjoys what they are doing. Do not force them to play a certain role they can't portray. Make everyone like the play. And everyone should have fun. If everyone has fun, then the group would strengthen its bond. Relationships would flourish. This is the best award any group can win... FRIENDSHIP.

  6. People should understand why they are here
The playfest is not just a contest... it's a showcase of talents. OK OK. Hindi lahat ng ROC people ay talentado pero lahat makakapal ang mukha. At least, dapat, mahasa ang kakapalan ng mukha ng lahat. Pero sana, talent din. This would serve as a workshop... a training ground for future projects...

Not only that. Each group should think they are part of one whole show. So each should contribute to this big show... so everyone should make sure no group sucks or the whole show would suck. Tulungan hindi tumbahan at hilahan. If everyone has this mentality, we'll have one great show composed of several fabulous shows... we are here as ROC, not as individuals.

  7. Comply with the school rules.
Costumes dapat nasa dress code. Profanities, iwasan as much as possible. Wag masyadong i-push ang limits... bata pa kayo... hehehe. No alcohol on stage. Yosi siguro pwede. Bawal ang daring masyado na costume. Bawal explicit na patayan. Maraming bawal... wag na kayong magtanong. Sumunod na lang.

  8. EXPRESS YOURSELF
Di ko na to kailangang ipaliwanag.

  9. Lastly, do not go on stage with this in mind:
    "Mananalo kami na best group..."

    rather:

"Mananalo ang ROC na BEST ORG!"
