With the ever present threat of terrorism on American shores and our country's revamped sense of national pride, it pains me to see that some citizens of this great nation of diverse cultures and heritage, still deem it neccessary to reflect their shallow callousness through racism and hate. This nation was founded on the principles of freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. To be who we are, to believe what we want to believe, and to be free in doing so. This country is a melting pot of immigrants, with the exception of the natives to this land, and we are proud and fortunate to be so diverse and colorful. The only colors that should matter are the red, white and blue of our nation's banner of freedom and yet there are those who continue to disparage, discriminate, and even commit crimes of hate against peoples of different colors and creed.
On the news there is talk of a "new evil" called terrorism that plagues the entire world. Our country, along with nations around the Earth are uniting in an unprecedented display of cooperation to combat the threat of this "new evil". What disturbs me the most in this time of national pride and unity is not terrorism. It is the "ancient evil" of racism that continues to fester in the bowels of the civilized world. America's "New War" is not against Arabs, Afghanis, or any other peoples of Middle Eastern and Asian descent. It is most certainly NOT a war on Islam and the message of Allah, passed through the angel Gabriel, passed through the prophet Mohammed. America's "New War" is waged on the threat of terrorism and its supporters.
Terrorism doesn't have a race or religion. Terrorism is non-discriminative. People of all colors, cultures and creeds died in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Terrorism is not exclusive to certain groups of people. Terrorists don't mind killing the innocent. Men, women, children, black, white, asian, hispanic, arabic, christian, jewish, or islamic, none of these, or any classification of people matter to terrorists.
Timothy McVeigh, whom was responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing was a white guy. Osama Bin Laden is an Arab. Terrorists are like serial killers... they look like everyone else. They are extremists, plain and simple. There are a lot of extremists in this and any country. We are not the first to suffer through terrorist attacks and we most certainly won't be the last. But the fact of the matter is that if you contribute to the evil then you are no better than those who commited these atrocious acts of inhumanity.
Racism, like terrorism, stems from the same evil... it's all just hate. It's hate with a different face, a different name, and the same evil agenda. It is backward thinking to believe any different. Stop the hate, stop the racism, and we will ALL live better lives. PEACE; LOVE; and UNITY FOR ALL. God bless America, OUR home sweet home!!
