Meaning: This song as about a female character seeing her love getting married to another person and all she could do was cry. This song bascially said that itself without going in deeper to the song to find the meaning of the song. Right here it says "I saw my love walk down the aisle on her finger he placed a ring" showing that the main character was seeing her love doing the marriage ceremony with someone else and not herself. She also said when her love and the woman said "till death do us part" "each word was a pain in her heart". This song ends with a sad ending because the main character lost her love.
All I Could Do Was Cry
Etta James
Written by B. Davis

- peaked at #33 in 1960

I heard church bells ringing
I heard a choir singing
I saw my love walk down the aisle
On her finger he placed a ring

Oh, I saw them holding hands
She was standing there with my man
I heard them promise "Till death do us part"
Each word was a pain in my heart

All I could do, all I could do was cry (cry, cry, cry)
All I could do was cry (cry, cry, cry)
I was losing the man that I loved
And all I could do was cry (cry, cry, cry)

Yeah and now the wedding's over
Rice, rice has been thrown over their heads
For them life has just begun
But mine is at an end

All, all I could do, all I could do was cry (cry, cry, cry)
All I could do was cry (cry, cry, cry)
I was losing the man that I loved (cry, cry, cry)
And all I could do was cry (cry, cry, cry)
Relate to 1960: Again this decade is more emotional and concerning love. This song relates to the 1960s because this whole song is about how the main character lost her love. "I was losing the man that I loved" was one of the verse in the chorus. This song is quite depressing from the artist's point of view because she lost the man she had loved.
