A Spider Danced a Cosy Jig
By Irving Layton

Information about author: On March 1912 Israel Pincu Lazarovitch, also known as Irving Layton was born. He was born in the Jewish Twon of Tirgul Neamt. His family immigratedto Montreal in 1913. At 1925 his father died. Irving then became a businessman, peddling household goods. But later he stopped and went to Baron Bying High School. After high school he went to Macdonald College. There he wrote a column for the Macdonald Newspaper, but due to the content he was blacklisted from entering U.S.A.

Meaning: I think that this poem is stressing that some things are impossible. In this poem he says a lot of stuff that can't come true such as "A dead man rose to tell a tale" or "stones began to bleed" and "the poor man blessed the rich."

Type of Poem: Free verse

Structure: ABCB EFGF HIJI

Poetic Devices: Stanza, rhyme, personification

Opinion: I think taht this poem is quite amusing and I like it.The point that the poem starts with a spider doing a cosy jig is humorous already. It says all these impossible stuff in the poem such as "the poor blessed the rich." Overall I thought that this poem was amusing.
