RAPE OF THE RAINFORESTS

Oh sturdy trees supporting life,

Greed has caused your people strife.

Because they see a profit there

They have laid your forests bare:

Sold your wares to highest bidder;

Never stopping to consider

The consequences they have wrought

Upon mankind, through lack of thought.

Your foliage, collecting rain,

Ravaged for financial gain,

No longer lingers to collect:

The rampant rainfall to deflect.

The consequential quest for wood

Causes a mighty forest flood.

And afterwards, as flood dries out,

Comes a devastating drought.

For many types of plant and tree,

Extinction becomes reality.

And many drugs to cure our ills

Are lost in forests, mankind kills.

And many people's lives are changed,

As with nature we become estranged.

To save the rainforests, we must strive,

If we're to keep our Earth alive.
