An animal that can change colors to blend in with its environment uses the adaptation of camouflage to protect itself from enemies.  The camouflage makes it hard for enemies to see it.

A shivering cat is showing instinctive behavior.

A circus dog doing tricks is showing learned behavior.

An elephant's tusk is an adaptation.
