Throughout
the school year we write different types of poetry. We use poetry
to respond to literature and various other topics across the grade 5 curriculum,
as well as events in our lives. Format poetry is used as a vehicle
to manipulate language, and it makes poetry-writing a successful experience
for children.
Each year I publish a poetry anthology for my classroom, as well as a personal anthology for each student. We were very excited this year at the prospect of producing a complete anthology for each member of our class, and at the idea of having this book professionally-published.
Our Rockin'
Poems is a reflection of the students' hard work and creativity.
It is a lasting memento of our year together in grade 5. I know as
the years pass I will read this book from time to time and remember, with
a smile, something special.
