 Literature
Each year we use literature
to teach reading skills as well as to reinforce other areas of the grade
five curriculum. Some of the genres of literature we utilize
include: |
Modern Realistic
Fiction - This type of fiction
involves situations and characters that could truly exist. One of
the books that we use in this genre is On My
Honor.

Historical
Fiction - This type of fiction
takes place during a specific period of time in the past. Although
the story is fictitious, it may include characters and events which really
occurred. One of the books that we use in this genre is The
Fighting Ground.

Biography - This type of
wriiting is the true account of someone's life. It may be written by
the subject, (an autobiography), or may be authored by another
person. One of our biography in-class books is It Came From Ohio!
the life of popular children's writer R. L.
Stine.

Fantasy
- This genre of literature
includes events which could not happen in real life, such as talking
animals, time travel, etc. One of the books we use in this genre is
The Castle in the Attic.
