Real Peace

By Rachel R. Brown

One day I sketched a peace sign in my notebook. I glanced over my shoulder. No one was looking. No one had seen that I had drawn the bad symbol. But God was watching. I slammed my notebook shut and looked around guiltily. Then I began to wonder what Gods feelings on it were. Then all the ideas on this paper, flashed instantly into my mind.

OK, about the peace sign. Think about it. Supposedly this is a bad symbol because it represents an upside-down, broken cross which is saying Peace without Jesus. Well, I guess non-Christians can look at it that way, but as a Christian, I have a whole different view point of it.

First of all, say it is an upside-down broken cross. Well, the cross was the Devils plan to destroy Jesus for good and do away with all his plans. However, Jesus defeated the cross when he victoriously rose from the grave! To me, a Christian, an upside-down broken cross represents how Jesus threw the Devils plan right back in his face and now we can have REAL peace through Jesus Christ. Christian often stand around looking at the cross, wearing the cross, drawing the cross, etc. Yes, it was wonderful what was accomplished on the cross, but thank God that Jesus didnt stay on the cross! Think what a different story it would be if Jesus wasnt risen from the dead and stayed defeated in the tomb and the Devils plan worked. That would be terrible! Thank the Lord that Jesus defeated the cross, the Devils plan to destroy all of mankind.

Heres another way I like to look at the peace sign. The three lines that go towards the middle of the circle represent God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. Then the three lines merge into one, showing that although the three are individuals, they are also one.

The peace sign is in the shape of a circle. To me, a circle represents God perfectly. A circle has no beginning and no end and goes on and on for an eternity. With God it is the same way. He has no beginning and no end and he goes on for ever as well.

Also the wagon wheel principle is demonstrated here. The circle represents Christianity and God is in the center. As we each get closer to God, we also get closer to each other.

*****
In this particular drawing of a peace sign, there are some more symbolic things in it. The black represent how dark life would be without Jesus and the colors which make the actual peace sign, represent how bright things are with Jesus. Each of the colors stands for something in particular.

Red: The love of God and the blood Jesus shed for us so that we can have eternal life.
Orange: The goodness and grace of God
Marigold: True happiness that comes only from God
Yellow: The glory of God that shines brighter than the sun
Green: The new life that we have through Jesus Christ
Turquoise: Friendship. Jesus is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Light Blue: Rivers of living water from Jesus
Dark Blue: In spite of the storms, Jesus is there to give us peace
Purple: Royalty. Jesus is the King of Kings
Magenta: Faith. The faith that Jesus gives us to believe for the impossible!

All together now: All colors together make up one wonderful thingreal PEACE that comes only from God!
