Chapter 8 (part 2)
The Sea of Green
The first horse tossed its head up and down as if nodding. Then it began blinking its eyes repeatedly as if trying to tell them something.
Eyes? Paul asked.
The horse shook its head and continued blinking.
Sight? Pam suggested.
The horse one again shook its head but did not stop blinking.
See? Rita asked.
The horse nodded vigorously and quit blinking.
Sea! exclaimed Paul in wonder. Like S-E-A.
Wonder what sea it is this time? Rita mused.
Watch, Pam said. Theyre going to give us more directions.
The second horse stepped forward and suddenly a deep steady ticking sound seemed to come from inside him.
A time bomb! Pam cried.
The horse shook its head.
Clock? asked Paul.
The horse shook its head harder and the ticking was even louder.
Time? Rita suggested.
The horses stopped ticking and nodded vigorously.
The Sea of Time, Paul marveled. See, we have another clue now.
Thank you, horses, Pam said as she reached out to pat one on the nose. However, they turned and cantered off into the distance. Good bye, Pam murmured after them.
Well, lets see if we can find this Sea of Time, JoJo sighed.
They kept walking until they came to what looked like a huge clock face sticking up out of the sea floor. Its hands were ticking around in circles.
I have a feeling were getting close to the Sea of Time, Paul told the others.
A very strong feeling would you say? Rita asked with a smile.
Now we just need to figure out how to enter this sea, Pam said. I dont see any doors or holes, do you?
No, JoJo said. Maybe weve come to a dead end.
No, Pam argued. The horses wouldnt have given us bad directions.
Maybe this is just an obstacle to throw us off, JoJo suggested pessimistically.
I dont think so, Rita said. This has got to be it, what do you think, Paul?
Me thinks Ive found the way in, Paul replied. He grabbed onto the of the clock hands as it went by and it lifted it him into the air. Well ride it to the top, he called. Grab the next hand.
When the next hand came by Rita, JoJo, and Pam all grabbed hold of it and were lifted upwards. Rita watched the numbers pass by as she neared the top.
Let go when you reach the 12, Pauls voice called to them.
The 12 approached and they all let go. Rita felt herself tumbling rapidly down a hallway with clocks of all shapes sizes designs and colors ticking around on the walls.
