![]() Listen to "Sine Cura" (Accoustic) Join our mail list BACKGROUND: MATILDA is a name for a battleground maiden. It is taken from the names of the legendary women warriors of twelfth and thirteenth century England. These women fought for the rights they deserved but were deprived of. Like the femme fatale name, Matilda is an army herself as she confronts the local rock scene predominantly ruled by men. With the band's erratic feminine stereotype mostly branded as androgynous, one can expect from this group an unconventional hybrid of music whose identity tears down the preconceived notions of girl bands. Matilda, the clever, precocious and powerful character of the child protagonist of Roald Dahl's book, "Matilda", has qualities that mirror the individual traits of the band members, as well as the whole group's own aura. Matilda's music is not confined to a fixed genre but it acknowledges its heavy leanings on goth, grunge, heavy metal, rock, and, classical influences. With Charms Tianzon on vocals; Meryl Antonio-Reyes on guitars; Yvette Tunguia on bass; Jovi Reyes on drums; and Maricor Reyes on the violin, all together they raise a following wherever their music takes a visit. Poetic lyricism amidst a cacophony of sounds. Melodic violin and vox intermingling with pounding drum beats, erratic but intense bass riffs, and nonchalant guitar rhythms of light and heavy cascades. Words on life, betrayal, blind addiction, pain, oppression, misery, personal inquisition, angst, and a struggling optimism against these emotions. A trek to music that would suit your intellect, woo your interest, and empathize with your soul. Matilda started out doing musical scores for short films in the University Of The Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. Independently released an E.P. in 2003 which includes the song "Iyak Ni Maria" (Maria's Cry or The Cry of Maria) - their battlesong in support of the Women's Crisis Center's (WCC) "Yes to women's rights. No to violence against women". Nominated in 2004 for the "In The Raw" Category (category for independent or unsigned bands) at the NU-107 Rock Awards. Our songs "High" and "Asin Sa Sugat" have been included in two compilation albums "Silver Shiny Jeepney and UP Underground Sampler cd. Thanks for viewing.God bless :) Free domain & web hosting |
