| ROB CLENDENING, drums & vocals A child of the early American rock and roll and later the British invasion, Rob grew up pounding on his school desk, legs, other kids, and anything that got in his way (until the teacher told him to cool it). He later took up drums in junior high and played in school band through high school. Unfortunately, he was not able to get a drum set until three years after graduation, but quickly made up for lost time. Rob spent many long hours jamming with his youthful buddies and bothering the neighbors until all hours of the morning. This finally turned into playing in real bands doing cover tunes for parties, receptions, keggers, etc. Several cover bands later, Rob went from rock to blues to rhythm and blues to original material in a couple of well-known local bands. Rob also listens to jazz, jazz-rock, swing, and contemporary Christian music. He still enjoys playing with the Central Michigan Area Concert Band and has played many other types of music over the years. ROB'S KIT: is a beautiful natural maple finish Gretsch kit with sprinklings of Ludwig, Noble and Cooley, Zildjian, and Paiste. ROB'S FAVORITE LUMBER: Pro Mark 7A, 5A, and 2B "baseball bats" for those tunes that require a subtle touch. ROB'S AMPLIFIER: he just hits harder! He also has acquired some nice microphones over the years and he knows how to use 'em! ROB'S OTHER TOYS: a double Hat Trick tambourine, LP maracas and cowbells, Acme siren whistle, finger cymbals, various shakers, and a slide whistle to help everyone pay attention. Yamaha, Ludwig, and Slingerland marching snares round out his toy collection. ROB'S WORST MOVE: not using a cymbal protector and losing his favorite 17-inch crash. ROB'S BEST MOVE: marrying his one and only. ROB'S OBSESSION: keeping almost every good piece of equipment he ever bought--classic "ERS" (equipment retention syndrome). ROB'S OTHER TALENTS: he's a bitchin' sound engineer in both live and recording situations. ROB'S BEST QUOTE: "That wasn't so bad..." During the daylight hours, Rob masquerades as a production manager. Other interests include hot rods and race cars, going to movies, and he's on a first-name basis with many of the staff at all the area restaurants. He also enjoys audio engineering at the First United Methodist Church where he has been an active member for many years. Rob and his wife share their home with two of the largest cats in existence--Flannigan and Callahan--and Malachi, their feline apprentice. |
