| JOHN HARPER, guitar & vocals An authentic child of the Sixties, John remembers seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. His parents gave him a guitar for his sixteenth birthday--an act they would soon regret, as he turned from a docile, pimply teenager into the thing they feared the most--a MUSICIAN! His mother never forgave him. Actually, she never forgave anybody anything, but that's a different story. Besides guitar, John can play bass and keyboards. He is also learning harp (which, despite his family name, he sucks at), pennywhistle, and citern. Don't expect to see any of these instruments on stage anytime soon. John is a real equipment junkie and has never met a guitar he didn't like. JOHN'S FIRST BAND: Northern Lights (acoustic rock, lots of Dave Mason, CSN, and America--hey, it was college!) JOHN'S FIRST GUITAR: a Harmony flattop acoustic. JOHN'S FIRST ELECTRIC GUITAR: a 335 knockoff called a Polaris. JOHN'S FIRST GOOD GUITAR: a Fender Telecaster purchased in several pieces from Jerry Schafer. JOHN'S WORST MOVE: selling that gorgeous '76 Les Paul with the natural finish. Damn! JOHN'S BEST MOVE: marrying a gal who can sing and play rock and roll. JOHN'S CURRENT GUITARS: the "Jazzcaster" (also known as Number One), a true mutant guitar with strange powers; an Italia Modena in sparkly red metalflake and pearl; an Epiphone Les Paul Standard; a Danelectro Hodad 12-string for those sensitive moments; a Charvel Surfcaster (ta-whang!); and "Pinky," a Frankenstein Strat with two humbuckers and a Bigsby vibrato. JOHN'S AMPLIFIER: a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. JOHN'S STOMP BOXES: a Blue Tube overdrive, Danelectro Tuna Melt Tremolo, Digitech MultiChorus, Boss DD-3 Digital Delay, and a Dunlop Crybaby Wah pedal. Sometimes he turns them all on at once... JOHN'S BEST QUOTE: "Can you hear the guitar? Do I need to turn up?" In the real world, John is a therapist. Other interests include wearing tights and saying things like "forsooth" at Renaissance fairs, stylin' and profilin' in the hot rod '47 Ford coupe he and Susie own, assembling scary guitars out of spare parts, and building Lego castles. |
