My Position on Conforming American Teenagers: By The Rock Girl America is called the land of the free. Am I correct? I hope I am. Why are adults trying to conform teenagers to what they want the teens to be? I say to let the teens be who they want to be, all adults have to do is help them choose the track they want to be on. School uniforms are a small start to conforming teenagers. Why take a part of our individuality away? We have the basic freedom to wear what we want. Do we want an army of uniformed, mindless drones? Taking away uniforms is a sign of adults trying to conform teenagers to their standards. Teenagers are likely to rebel against adults trying to conform them. This would be a cause for adults to make themselves more powerful, and force conformity on them. In an article I read, students were punished for not wearing their uniforms, but instead they wore clothes showing school spirit. Those students were immediatly sent home. What would our world look like with Conformed teenagers? You would probably get really bored with your neighborhood. People who dress in the same manner are boring! People who act in the same manner are BORING! Teenagers want to be individuals, don't take that away from them! They bring flavor to society. Without teens, society would be a very bland soup.
The "N" Word, My Thoughts as a White Girl the "n" word is one of the most derogatory words in the english language. it has been used since the days where there were white slave owners, and slave plantations. i am a white girl writing about my thoughts on the word. i hate the "n" word. i don't even like to write my thoughts on it. someone sparked my thoughts on it by using it in a few of her entries. the dictionary defines the "n" word as: "a disparaging term for a Black person: 'You can only be destroyed by believing that you really are what the white world calls a nigger' (James Baldwin). ", a "disparaging term for a member of any dark-skinned people. " and a "disparaging term for a member of any socially, economically, or politically deprived group of people: 'Gun owners are the new niggers... of society' (John Aquilino). " the "n" word is an evil word. it was meant for evil when it was first used, and it is still evil today. i don't understand how a black american can use the word like the word meant brother. my thought was it was the only way black americans could take away the pain of the word's real meaning. i still don't know why black people use it. i also don't understand how a white person in today's society can use it the way it was used two hundred years ago. i did some research on it. the word is derived from neger, which is the english derivative of the word Negro, the spanish word for black. the article i read also stated that it was unknown when it bacame a racial slur. Who ever made it a slur must have been the biggest bigot in history, the word has become a monster. it has caused so much pain to the people it has been said to. this is as much as I know now. MY OVERALL THOUGHT: I HATE this word. I have never used it, and I NEVER will. I don't think anyone should use it, even if it is in an affectionate manner. The word is evil. Whoever uses it is an evil person. I hope no one will ever have to hear it again, but I'm sorry to say I don't think that will ever happen.
