Dangerously in Love!
Ah, Terra. The bane of the Raven and Beastboy shipper's existence. The beautiful blond arrived - or rather, fell - right on the Teen Titans doorstep, opening a Pandora's box full of sickeningly soap-opera-esk scenes, which include charming the socks everyone (aside from Raven), sinking her claws into Beastboy with agonizingly angsty scenes of cry/comfort and generally gumming up the works for all us poor RaexBB shippers.
But is that really the case? Not really. Terra may have thrown the proverbial 'spanner in the works' for a while but she also brought something out in Raven that we would never have otherwise gotten the chance to see - Jealousy.
There's no denying it. Raven was jealous of Terra. Lets take a look at that for a moment starting with the episode 'Titan Rising'.
The episode begins with all of the Titans on the rooftop playing Volleyball except Raven, she is off to the side meditating. The game really gets going and Beastboy morphs into a gorilla, using its powerful arms to smash the ball across the net. The ball heads straight for Raven's turned back. Beastboy calls to her but she's already on top of it, freezing the ball in mid air and sending it back into Beastboy's arms.

"Nice save." He calls, winded.
Starfire then ask Raven if she would like to play with them too. Cyborg agrees and tries to coax her into the game too.
I can't" She replies, "I have to meditate." Remember this part. It's important. She didn't say "I don't want to.", she said "I can't.". Now Raven isn't one to beat around the bush. She simply can't play the game and put off her meditation. Her powers are dangerous and need to be kept under tight control.
The game continues until Beastboy accidentally knocks the ball off of the roofthen suddenly, a silhouette appears before the sunset. It's Terra. She's back after her runaway weeks before. Everyone is elated to see herexcept Raven, she continues to meditate.
"Terra's back! Isn't that great?!" Beastboy calls to her.
"Super." Raven replies sarcastically, not even bothering to open her eyes, "Help yourself to whatever is in the fridge and make sure you lock the door when you leave."
I love that subtle poke at Terra's ungrateful disappearance!
Terra then explains that she won't be leaving again and that her disappearance was merely time alone to harness her unpredictable powers. She then gives an extravagant display of her newfound 'control'. Raven watches with something other than indifference in her eyes for a change.
This whole rooftop scene is very telling. Terra returns to the Titans after they all thought she has coldly abandoned them. She claims to have all of her powers under control and indeed, does seem to. She is bouncy, bubbly, fun and everyone adores her.
What about Raven? She has to meditate for hours on end to keep her powers under control, missing out on lots of fun activities with her friends. She must lock all of her emotions away for the good of all those she cares about and because of that, it took a long time fit her to fit in with the Titans.
Terra automatically claimed everything that Raven had to work so hard to achieve.
Raven's best gal pal, Starfire is all over Terra, happy that she can get away with showing bucket loads of affection and giving her huge, eye-popping hugs without being met with indifference.
Beastboy, is the only one that is convinced that there is more to Raven than what she shows and before Terra arrived he used to spend a good deal of his time working to bring Raven out of her shell. Telling her jokes and winning her toys As soon as Terra entered the picture, he was far too preoccupied.
As the episode continues Raven begins to dislike Terra more and more. They quarrel over a large rock in the middle of a battle, coincidentally after Beastboy is injured.

"No!
"What are you doing?!"
"It's too dangerous, someone could get hurt!"
"I know what I'm doing!"
If we fast foward a little to after the battle. The Titans are following a trail down a dark tunnel.
"Sorry about our little tug of war back there you
know I wouldn't have let anyone get hurt."
"Whatever."
"Look, I don't know what your problem is but
just get over it! If I'm going to be part of this
team we have to start working together."
"You're not part of this team! Not yet! And if
you endanger any of my friends again I'll make
sure you never are!"
Now, I can't imagine a bigger insult to Raven than to tell her to 'get over' her problem. Raven's problem is not one that can so easily be dismissed, no matter how much she would wish it. Terra has (supposedly) 'gotten over' all of her problems and to Raven it must really feel like she is really rubbing her nose in it.
"Why does she hate me?" Terra asks Beastboy as Raven storms angrily away.
"She kinda hates everyone." He replies, "She just needs some time to get used to you. I think she's still getting used to me"
It's hints like these - contant references to Raven and Beastboy's relationship - that really shows us what the writers are pushing towards.
It would have been just as 'in-character' for Raven to have remained indifferent towards Terra like Robin but no, Raven hates Terra with every fiber of her being. Before Terra arrived it was simple. Raven was emotionless, Beastboy tried to make her happy. Add Terra to the mix and suddenly it's an obvious triangle of three very different people all wanting the same thing - to be wanted and cared for.
So to sum up Raven and Terra's relationship in this episode, it was very much a case of "This town ain't big enough for the both of us!".
