Just Perfect...

Opposites attract, and when they do, it is a fantastic experience to watch them come together. Sparks positively fly!
Two very different people. One strong where the other is weak and vice versa, completing each other perfectly. The ying and the yang, the dark and the light. Pure poetry really.

On one hand we have Beastboy, who couldn't be more happy-go-lucky if he tried. Everything is just one colossal joke to him. He craves popularity.
On the other we have Raven, dark, brooding and sullen. She finds humour in nothing and it's rare that she even smiles. She knows that her emotions are dangerous and can't afford to indulge them. A loner.

They are two extremes. One is too happy, the other, too sad. Now when you put them together you have the bubbling, tense, exciting chemistry that shippers will sink their claws into without hesitation!

Raven is the only one of the Titans seemingly immune to Beastboy's charmsand he simply can't stand it!
"Come on Raven, you know I'm hilarious! And I'm not going to give up until I make you smile!"
It seems to be a mission of Beastboy's, to bring Raven out of her shell and he jumps at every opportunity to do so! It could even be construed as a kind of flirting! It often comes across that way!

Pairing two people with mirror personalities and interests is decidedly boring. There is no grind, no fiery passion, and no magic just bland sameness.

Many think that they'll find happiness with people just like
them, but when someone suffers or makes others suffer because of
a flaw in their personality, is someone with those same facets really
a good match for them?

The most popular 'ships' have been between complimentary characters. Take Teen Titans very own Robin and Starfire. Their relationship may be more obviously romantic but it's the same principles that make it adorable. Robin is proud and hot-headed. He shoots first, asks questions later. Starfire however, is calm and kind. She has the power to dissipate his reckless anger and stop him from doing or saying something he'd later regret.

Opposites not only attract, they complete each other.

~~~~~
To quote RxBB Shippers United, "true love often begins with resistance", and it's true!
Take Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice for example, arguably the greatest romance novel of the time. Lead heroine, the lively and quick-witted Elizabeth Bennett is quickly offended by the proud and haughty Mr. Darcy's words and takes an instant and intense dislike to him. Yet, as much as Elizabeth disliked Mr. Darcy through a good deal of the novel, she eventually changes her opinion and the two are wed in love.
Elizabeth and Darcy.
The world of animation is littered with romances that begin with resistance, both Americanimation and Japanime.
Belle and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast.
Vegeta and Bulma from Dragonball Z/GT.
Shrek and Princess Fiona from Shrek and Shrek 2.
Captian Amilia and Dilbert Doppler Treasure Planet.
Ginger and Rocky from Chicken Run.
Princess Azteca and Z from Antz.
You'll find that in most all such pairings the heart of the problem that causes the resistance is the lack of understanding. If you can't understand why someone is the way they are, you can't sympathize or empathize with them and if you can't do that, all you'll ever see is that person's annoying or frustrating personality flaws. You'll never be able to look past their faults and see the beautiful qualities beneath.
Once the characters do begin to understand one another, that is when the first step on the road to romance is reached --friendship.
Which, between Raven and Beastboy, we see happen to a small degree in Nevermore. Beastboy starts the episode angry and frustrated with Raven's flightiness but after he gets a brief glimpse into the turmoil that she must endure from her own mind he realizes that Raven isn't the cold, callous person that he perceived her to be and they had both been under the mistaken impression that the other didn't like them.
Raven and Beastboy are essential 'foil characters'. They highlight and emphasize each other's traits with an outcome both sweet and hilarious! The potential for plotlines based on relationships such as these are endless and the chemistry veritably sizzles, making it extremely fun to watch play out!
