| Roman it's not. What I originally thought was possibly a "medieval coin", has been identified as a Jeton or a counter. Used as part of a table-top abacus or sorts, looking like a checkerboard to reckon accounts or large sums of money. These Jeton were made over the course of 500 years in Europe, and ranged in quality from pretty crude to absolutely gorgeous. This piece appears to be German and is called a Rechenpfenning. It is 11 mm, weighs about 1.5 gms and appears to be bronze. On what I call the front is what appears to be sunrays shining on something. There are stars among the rays. The back side has a faint 3 masted ship on it. There is some faint lettering, but I haven't been able to read it with any certainty. My thanks to Mark Lehman for the information on this artifact. | |||||||||||||

| I have absolutely no idea what this is. Coin, button, lead seal, question maker? Appears to read C <pellet> with an odd looking P or B or something I've never seen. 10 mm, weighs maybe .75 gm. Silver or pewter or ?. Fairly soft material whatever it is. Reverse side blank. Came in a large lot of coins. | |||||||||||||
