Love Will Find a Way
by Erin

It was a warm summer day in mid July, and Jessie, James, and Meowth were hiking in the woods. As they walked, they came to a fork in the road, which split into two separate paths. Meowth looked every which way to determine exactly where they should go.

"I don't know about you two," he said. "But, I'm stuck on which way we should go! Both paths look good, but I don't know which one to take!"

"Why don't we go down the left trail?" said James. "It looks safe enough, and besides, it beats standing around here and dawdling!"  Looking at the redhead at his side, he added, "What do you say, Jess?"

"The left trail looks all right to me," said Jessie. "Anything to keep from basking here in the sun all day!"

"I hope you two know what you're doing," said Meowth. "If we get lost out there, don't go blamin' me!"

"Don't worry, Meowth," said James. "As long as we're together, we'll be just fine! No matter what happens, we should rely purely on our function as a team!"

"Whatever you say, James," said Meowth. "I just hope you're true to your word! Otherwise, you'll find my foot in front of your face!"

The trio then proceeded down the left trail. Along the way, they felt the forest getting deeper and deeper, as if there was no end in sight.  Jessie got a little jittery and grabbed onto James, who gently patted her hands with his.

"What's wrong, Jessie?" he said. "You look worried!"

"I don't like this part of the woods, James," said Jessie. "It's dark and creepy! And I've got the suspicion that we've lost our way!"

Just then, James stopped and checked the compass. "The compass is going crazy! I can't tell which direction to go!"

"Good goin', James Bond," said Meowth. "You've gotten us lost! You're worse than that twerp! Now we'll never get out of here! The sun is gonna set soon, and we've gotta find a place to crash for the night!"

"He's right, James," said Jessie, clutching James's arm tighter than before. "Who knows what could happen out here in the dead of night! I think it'll be safer if we just stop and pick up where we left off in
  the morning!"

"Good point, Jess," said James, kissing her gently on her forehead.  "Stay here while I go get some wood for the fire!"

"There's no way you're leaving me behind, James," said Jessie. "I want to go with you!"

James hugged her close to him. "Calm down, Jessie! What's gotten into you all of a sudden? Look, would it make you feel better if I promised that I'd be all right? And that if I get into trouble, I'll send Weezing to get you?"

"Yes, it would," said Jessie. "Good luck! And hurry back!"

James kissed her tenderly and ran off to find some wood for the fire.  Once he was gone, Jessie sat down under a tree. Meowth could sense how jittery she was.

"What's the matter, Jess?" he said. "You've been actin' weird ever since we started down this path!"

"You really want to know?" said Jessie. "Well, just last night, I had this horrible nightmare! I dreamed that we were hiking in the woods and we walked down the left path, and we got lost! Then, James told me that he was going to get firewood, and something terrible happened to him! I woke up in a cold sweat, thinking that it would all come true!"

"So, that's why you're so upset," said Meowth. "It's all because of the nightmare! Oh, God, and James just went to get firewood right now!  That nightmare of yours, it might have some truth to it!"

Just then, Weezing appeared. Jessie jumped to her feet when she saw him. Something bad had to have happened to James, and she had to know what it was.

"What happened, Weezing?" she said. "Where's James?"

"Weezing (He fell down a steep cliff not too far from here! He's hurt bad! You have to help him!)."

"Take me to him, Weezing," said Jessie. "Meowth and I will follow you!  Show me where he fell!"

"Weezing (It's just over this way! Follow me!)."

The loyal gas Pokemon floated away as Jessie and Meowth followed below him. They continued to follow him until they came to the steep cliff, where James had indeed fallen. He was shaking like a leaf and it looked like blood was oozing from a cut on his forehead and from his mouth.

"Oh, my God," said Jessie. "I've got to help him! Who knows how serious his injuries are!"

"Careful, Jess," said Meowth. "I don't wanna see you get hurt too!"

"Don't worry about me, Meowth," said Jessie. "I'm a big girl! I have to see what I can do for James!"

She carefully slid down to where James was. He weakly opened his eyes when he saw her coming.

  "Jessie?"

"It's all right, James," said Jessie. "I'm here! I'm going to help you! Weezing told us that you're hurt!"

"Yeah," said James. "I just don't know how it happened! I mean, all I was doing was getting firewood! Then, all of a sudden, I tripped on something and down I went! I tried to get up, but I felt a sharp pain in
my leg! So, I sent Weezing to get help! Sure enough, you two came!"

"It's all my fault," said Jessie. "Me and my stupid dream!"

"No, Jessie," said James. "Don't blame yourself! These things happen all the time! There's no reason to think that you're the one who caused this! You have nothing to apologize for!"

Jessie tried to fight back her tears, but they came anyway, falling onto James's red T-shirt. Carefully, she lifted him up off the ground, threw a rope up to Meowth, who was able to pull them up.

"How is he? Are the injuries serious?"

"I don't think so," said Jessie. "He'll be all right once we get him to a hospital! They'll fix him right up!"

They then proceeded back to the camp, where Jessie dressed the cut and wiped the blood from James's mouth. This time, Arbok and Lickitung got the firewood.

The next day, Jessie helped James to walk while they managed to find a way out of the woods. They found a hospital a few miles away. Jessie was grateful that everything was going to be okay again.

"Are you sure you're gonna be all right, Jessie?" said Meowth. "I mean, you had me worried for a minute there!"

"I'll be okay, Meowth," said Jessie. "After an experience like that, I think I'll recover! I mean, it's not like anyone died or anything!"

"That's good," said Meowth. "And I'm glad that we finally got out of that blasted forest! And I'm glad that James is gonna be all right! Do you think that he'll ever be able to walk on that leg?"

"I'm sure it'll heal," said Jessie. "It wasn't that bad a break!"

The doctor came out. He came some news for her.

"Good news," he said. "Your friend is going to be just fine! The fracture on his right leg will heal in a few days, and there weren't any serious injuries!"

"Thank you, Doctor," said Jessie. "May I see him?"

"Of course you may," said the doctor. "His room is right down the hall!"

Jessie and Meowth went to James's room, where they found him with his leg bandaged. All the dirt had been wiped off his handsome face and a bandage was wrapped around his forehead.

"Hey, baby," he said. "I was wondering when I'd see you again!"

"Everything is going to be fine, James," said Jessie. "The doctor said that your leg was only fractured and that there were no other serious injuries besides the cut on your head!"

"That's good," said James. "Are you okay, at least?"

"I'm much better now that I know you're safe," said Jessie. "I was afraid that I lost you!"

"You'll never lose me," said James. "I'm a survivor!"

Jessie smiled. "I know you are! And I'm glad that everything is back to normal again!"

Then, they got closer and their lips locked in a tender kiss. Meowth watched from nearby. He smiled as he witnessed this heartfelt moment unfold before his feline eyes.

"Ah, love," he said to himself. "Ain't it grand?"
