The Evil That is Jessibell
by Erin

(Things really heat up when Jessibell bails Butch and Cassidy out of
jail and looks to make trouble for our heroes.)

The Mandarin Island jail was dark and dingy, which could make anyone wish that there was a way to obtain freedom. New inmates Butch and Cassidy, who had been arrested for attempting to steal the Pokemon using a Drowzee, which so happened to belong to Butch. With nothing to do, they basically sat in their cell, smoking some cigarettes. Officer Jenny approached them minutes later. She appeared to have news for them.

"Good news," she said. "Someone has paid your bail money!"

"That's ridiculous," said Cassidy, blowing a cloud of smoke at the officer. "Butch and I were just arrested and thrown in this dump! How could anyone have bailed us out already?"

"You can call me a liar all you want," said Officer Jenny. "But, whoever freed you sent you these airline tickets and a list of
instructions! And it smells like Exotic Vileplume #5 perfume, which is the exact same fragrance my relative in Saffron City wears!"

"Never mind the family junk, sister," said Cassidy. "Just give us the tickets and the instructions! I guess the person who bailed us out must really need us for something!"

Butch smirked. "I'll bet it's the boss's wife! She kind of has a thing for me! Man, I love that woman!"
"Shut up, Butch," said Cassidy. "The boss's wife has nothing to do with this! Now, hurry up before we miss our flight!"

Meanwhile, back at the Rocket Arms apartment complex in 12A, James was making pancakes while Jessie sat at the kitchen table reading the paper.  Ben was in the bathroom taking a shower. A particular headline caught Jessie's eye and she was rather curious about it. It read: "TEAM ROCKET'S BUTCH & CASSIDY RELEASED FROM MANDARIN ISLAND PRISON UNDER MYSTERIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES! Police Baffled as to Who Bailed Out the Notorious Duo!".

"James," she said. "Did you know that Butch and Cassidy are out of jail now? Somebody paid their bail money!"

"Impossible," said James, bringing out the pancakes. "The last time we saw them, Officer Jenny shipped them off to the Mandarin Island jail!  Besides, I didn't even know that we had connections in the Orange Islands!"

"The headline says that they were released under mysterious circumstances," said Jessie. "I believe that they're back to make  trouble for us, and I mean double!"

Ben came out in his black Team Rocket uniform, followed by Growlie, the Growlithe that the two brothers shared. "What's up, guys?"

"Brace yourself for this, little brother," said James. "It appears that our rivals, Butch and Cassidy, are out of jail! They left Mandarin Island this morning!"

"I've heard about those two," said Ben. "They're mean ones, they are!"
"You've got that right," said Jessie. "And we've got to stop them before they try to steal more Pokemon!"
"But, Jess," said James. "We don't know who bailed them out!"

"But, I do know where they're going," said Jessie. "Apparently, whoever bailed them out has a headquarters outside of town at the planetarium!"

"The planetarium?" said James. "That dump has been abandoned for years! Who would want to operate from there?"

"I don't know," said Jessie. "But, one of us is going to have to spy on Butch and Cassidy to find out what they're up to this time!"

"I'll go," said Ben. "I've always wanted to spy on people!"
"You, Ben?" said James. "But, you're just a recruit!"

Jessie put her hand on her boyfriend's shoulder. "Let him do it, James! Besides, Ben may be a recruit, but that doesn't mean that he's not qualified to go on a solo mission!"

"All right," said James. "I suppose he could do it! As long as Growlie's with him, he can go!"

"Don't worry, big bro," said Ben. "I'll be fine! I mean, I'm perfectly capable of anything! You should know me by now! Think of this as a favor from me! After all, I was the one who found you after twelve years of being separated from you, remember?"

"You're right, Ben," said James. "And I trust you! Just be careful and call us if you need us!"
"I will," said Ben. "Trust me on that!"

With that, he was out the door and he and Growlie set off for the old planetarium, with Growlie at his side. The young Rocket was in awe at the exterior of the building, which looked to be new, even though the whole building was condemned. Quickly, they crawled over into the bushes and looked into the window, where they caught a glimpse of Butch and Cassidy and the person who bailed them out.

"I was hoping you'd be able to catch that flight out of Mandarin Island," said the figure in a sultry Southern accent. "I needed you for my latest plan!"

"Dispense with the pleasantries, sister," said Cassidy rather sternly.  "Just who are you anyway?"

"I thought you'd never ask, honey," said the figure. "And I suppose I've hidden my identity for far too long!" Stepping out of the shadows, she revealed herself. "My name's Jessibell Roberta Hockley, but ya'll can call me Jessibell!"

"I'll call you Queen Elizabeth," said Cassidy sarcastically. "What is is you want with us?"

"Yeah," said Butch. "And it better be good!" Curiously, he added, "Do you have any cigarettes? It's been a couple of hours since we last smoked, and we need some!"

Jessibell threw him a pack of Camels. "The reason I asked you here was because I need some assistance in capturing a certain young man named James Rosewood, who so happens to be my fiance!"

"Is that why you've made us come all the way here?" said Cassidy.  "Because you can't land yourself a guy like James? Come off it, sister!  We don't have time to deal with this!"

"Do what I ask and I'll pay you handsomely," said Jessibell. "How does $65,000 sound to you?"
"Sixty-five grand, you say?" said Butch. "Sounds like a deal to me!  Cass and I will gladly take the job!"

Ben scowled when he heard what Jessibell's plan was. Apparently, he didn't like it one bit. Suddenly, his allergies began to act up and he sneezed before he knew what was going on. Jessibell heard it and sent Butch and Cassidy outside. Panicky, Ben tried to escape, but Butch pinned him down before he could get very far. Growlie was able to get away and ran all the way back to the apartment complex.

Jessie and James were beginning to worry about Ben. Nearly two hours had passed since he left and not a word from him.
"I'm awfully worried about him, James," said Jessie. "I mean, do you think he may have gotten hurt or something?"

"He'd better not be hurt," said James. "I'd never forgive myself if something like that ever happened! I'm just as worried as you are, Jess, and I have the feeling that something's wrong!"

Before Jessie could answer him, there came a howling at the door, as well as some barks and scratches. James, having recognized those sounds from anywhere, went to answer it. He opened the door and saw Growlie barking frantically.

"Growlie, what's wrong? What happened? Where's Ben?"
"Growlithe (He was captured by Butch and Cassidy! He's still at the planetarium!)."
"Oh, my God," said Jessie. "We've got to rescue him!"
"Quick, Growlie," said James. "Who bailed those hooligans out?"
"Growlithe (It was your ex-fiancee, Jessibell!)."

"Jessibell," said Jessie. "I should've known that this was her treachery!" Looking at James, she added, "Do you think that she even knows about Ben? I mean, she was engaged to you five years after his kidnapping!"

"I don't think so," said James. "But, I have a feeling that he may already have met her! Who knows what dastardly plans that madwoman has up her sleeve this time!"

  "I'll bet it isn't good!"

"With Jessibell, nothing's good," said James. "That woman is capable of anything! Kind of like your friend, the late Jacinda Madison!"

"Jacinda was never a friend of mine," said Jessie. "In fact, I didn't even like her because she called me a snot-nosed little brat just before I had Arbok kill her!"

"Enough talk," said James. "We have to rescue my brother from Jessibell! His freedom, as well as his life, depends on us!"

The two Rockets hurried out the door, with Growlie at their heels, and hopped into the red Team Rocket jeep, which was the most dependable mode of road travel. They drove until they arrived at the planetarium.  Growlie led them to the window, where they looked in and saw Ben tied to a chair with a handkerchief tied over his mouth.

"Jessibell must've done this," said James. "And it appears that we got here in the nick of time!"
"We'd better get him out while the getting's good," said Jessie. "For all we know, it could be a trap!"

James nodded and the two of them, their revolvers loaded and ready, burst through the doors and just before they were about to free Ben from his bonds, Jessibell appeared.

"So nice of you to come, James," she said. "I was wondering when you'd show your handsome face!"

"Let my brother go, Jessibell," said James. "I demand that you untie him immediately! What's he ever done to you? He's just a kid!"

"He was trespassing," said Jessibell. "Plus, he served as the perfect bait to lure you into my trap! It's such a pity that I didn't know about him sooner! Otherwise, I would've just tried something else!"

"The reason you didn't know about him sooner was because five years before your engagement, he was kidnapped and everyone believed that he was dead!" Jessie had a nasty glare in her eye when she said this, almost as if she were ready to blow Jessibell's head off.

"No matter," said Jessibell, bending over the chair. "How's about we make a trade? I'll give you the boy if you give me James! Sounds like a fair trade, don't you think?"

"You finishing school reject," said Jessie. "That's about the worst piece of negoitiation I've ever heard! I'd never hand James over to you, not after what you did to him!"

"That was then, sugar, this is now," said Jessibell with a crooked smile. "I realize that I've been bad and I wanted to change my ways, I've decided to turn over a new leaf!"

"Liar," said James. "I don't believe it for a minute! Nothing you ever told me was true! It was all a big, fat, stinking lie! You wouldn't know truth if it came up to you and introduced itself!"

Just then, a fight broke out. In the midst of the brawl, Growlie went over to Ben and crawled at the ropes until he was free. He removed the gag from his mouth.

"Thanks, Growlie! Now, let's teach these guys a lesson!"

With the aid of his Vulpix, Fireball, and his Flareon, Arson, Ben was able to help Jessie and James defeat Jessibell and her cronies. Once that was done, they all headed back to the apartment.

"I'm glad that's over," said James. "Hopefully, we won't have to face Jessibell again as long as we live!"
"I agree with you, James," said Ben. "She seemed really nasty!"

"That's because she is nasty, Ben," said Jessie before James could say anything. "That's her nature! You never met her before because you were kidnapped five years before the engagement was announced!"

"But, I met her today," said Ben. "Not to mention Butch and Cassidy!  Thank God we were able to stop them before they did anything worse! Do you think that they'll ever change?"

"No, Ben," said James. "I'm afraid that Butch and Cassidy will never change! They'll remain the same thorns in our side until the day Team Rocket disbands!"

"Ben," said Jessie. "Could you excuse us for a few minutes? I need to talk to James in private!"
"That's all right," said Ben. "Growlie and I need to have ourselves a nap anyway! But, be sure to fill me in later!"

Once Ben was out of the room, Jessie looked at James with a concerned look on her face. "Do you think that Ben was ready to face Jessibell for the first time?"

"Hey, if that kid's ready for solo missions," said James. "I'm sure that he's ready for anything! I have faith in him, and so should you!"

"I do," said Jessie. "But, I feel like a mother to him and we're not even married yet!"

"I can fix that," said James. "As of today, we're engaged to be engaged! After all, we're too young to get married yet! Maybe in another ten years or so, but not now!"

"Oh, James, I love you," said Jessie. "You know that, right?"
"I sure do, Jess," said James. "And I love you too!"

Then, he pulled her into an embrace and kissed her tenderly. They knew that they would never separate as long as they had each other and they also knew that Ben would always respect them, no matter how old he got.
