Home Leading Equipment Links Wall Climbing

You can climb low boulders or low level traversing without out any rope but if you want to gain any height you need some security from a rope. a rope can be tied directly around your waist but it is more comfortable and safer if you use a harness. Below is a list of starting equipment the you will need.

You will only need a helmet if you are going to go climbing outdoors. Rock shoes are not essential but a harness is. There are various types of harnesses a few are shown below.

Harness

To attach the rope to your self with saftey and comfort use either a sit harness or a full body harness. There are also belay belts which can be used for belaying but not for leading.

A sit harness consists of two parts the leg loops and the waist belt.

A belay belts consists of only a waist belt.

And a full body harness is all joined together in one big part.

The leg loops take less load than the belt, but ensure that the climber hangs in a seated position in the case of a fall. The waist belts are made of a strong nylon webbing that spreads the load of a fall over a large area.
