It kind of seemed like Bon Jovi were the only ones who sang LIVE at the Superbowl! I liked the Dixie Chics version too, but were they pre-recorded? Celine, and Shania seemed pre-recorded too! Thank God for Bon Jovi.... :) Truly, they were the best !
asked by kellee on Thursday, January 30 Answer:
From my point of view, the Dixie Chicks lipsynched, Shania lipsynched. Gwen Stefani and Sting sang for real and, of course, Jon sang for real. That said, it's common to have the National Anthem pre-recorded at SuperBowl and the Dixie Chicks version gave me goosebumps.

asked by Go_eagles! on Thursday, January 30 Answer:
The only reason I'm answering this is because you put Go Eagles as your username. I have a couple things that were really, um, AMAZING, but I can't tell you about them.

Question:
What exactly is the mixstation that is on the floor section at the shows?
asked by ginalovesbonjovi on Thursday, January 30 Answer:
That is the console (whether it's a Midas or a Yamaha or whatever) where all the mike cables terminate and it goes from the band's instruments into the console and spit out of the console in a stereo configuration and that goes to the power amps which drives all the speaks... so it takes the music is making and turns it into what the fans hear in the arena. OR, it's what I use to run my trains at Christmas.

This question is for Obie... I imagine you get to see the point of view from the mixing station during concerts quite frequently. If the choice of seats at a concert is between the floor section in front of the mixing station & the lower level to the immediate side/front of the stage, which do you recommend? I have tickets for both in Fort Lauderdale & am trying to decide which to keep for myself & which to give to my friends! Thanks!

Answer:
Lower level, immediate side/front of stage. I think they're the best seats.

Question:
About Mastering and composing. Guys, including Obrien, Does the band make part of the mixing and mastering process, like giving their opinion about compress, delays, effects ? About the arrengement are you who do the string parts? And to finish it, who controlled your copyright here in Brasil? Do you know that theres a lot of money detained for non idetification here? I know that cause I work at a publisher here and as a fan of yours I check it out. If want some help email me. [email protected] Daluz
asked by Joe on Thursday, January 30 Answer:
The guys are totally involved, especially Jon and Richie who were in the studio to the very last minute the album was being mastered. The amount of ketchup packets to include when I'm bringing them lunch is totally up to me. Arrangements are done with the band - producer Luke Ebbin and arranger David Campbell wrote the charts and conducted the orchestra but Jon and Richie are 100 percent involved. I decide what kind of Starbucks run we're doing. Also, I wash Jon's Viper. (publishing is handled worldwide by UMP)

Question:
Obie, you mentioned that the production crew tries not to have any seats behind the mixing station. The reason I asked is because I know for a fact that there were seats sold behind it for the CAA shows on Feb. 11th and 12th. The seats behind it are raised a tiny bit so I was just wondering if the mixing station was on a platform or was tall enough to be in the way of the view??
asked by bnj on Thursday, January 30 Answer:
The lift would accommodate the fact that the seats are behind the mixing board.
answered by BON JOVI INFO HQ on Thursday, January 30 2:23 PM

Question:
Obie, were you at the superbowl hanging out with the tampa bay cheerleaders? I thought i saw you doing the cha cha with the girls?
asked by OBIE on Thursday, January 30 Answer:
I was all set to go to The SuperBowl because I, like everyone else in Philadelphia, assumed The Eagles would be there. And after Philly lost to Tampa Bay, it took everyone ten days to talk me down off the roof. So, I missed my flight and I didn't even really feel like watching the SuperBowl... but, I did LOVE the Dixie Chicks' version of the national anthem. Gave me goosebumps. And I am not going to watch any Super Bowl again until The Eagles are in it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Question:
How tall/big is the mixing station for the indoor shows? I was wondering how much it will affect the view for the seats sold behind it.
asked by bnj on Friday, January 24 Answer:
The production team tries not to have any seats located behind the mixing station (but what we usually like to do if there are seats behind the station, we find out who the tallest person in those seats is and raise the mixing station 2 inches above their head. Yuk, yuk, yuk.)

He was an amazing football player. He's always had dogs as long as I've known him (no, I'm not talking about girlfriends.) I've let him drive all my cool cars. He was the best man at one of my weddings. He is, without question, the best bass player I've ever worked with in my entire life. And he's also got big feet, if you get my drift.

Question:
Hey Obie, what educational background do you need to become a music engineer, and how hard is it to get into that field afterwards?
asked by on Tuesday, March 11 Answer:

Listen, if I can do this, you need very little brain power. It's more about a feel for the art of the music and a willingness to give up your life... work, work and more work. School is fine but real experience is better. Most of the people I've hired in my life have not had any formal training in the recording arts. Most started on the ground floor, like me. Which means cleaning toilets and fetching food. An you have to have a lot of tolerance for abuse from other people.

Obie, What kind of person do you think will win the tour manager contest? Will it be some young pretty girl or do you think a 40 year old mom like me has a chance?
asked by bon jovi mom on Tuesday, March 11 Answer:
Hey, mom... you've got as good a chance as anyone to win that. And if you win it, I"m gonna show up to the gig with 150 guests that YOU have to take care of. That's what REALLY goes on for a manager. By the way, I hate my hotel room. Get me a better one. And this ice is too cold in my soda.

Question:
Hello Obie! I want to thank you for taking a few minutes to speak with me at the CAA show. I was the fan out in the hallway sitting on the floor by the wall because the guy in front of me was 7 feet tall! It was nice of you to come over to see how I was doing. Hope to see you at Giants Stadium. -Cathy :-)
asked by CATHCO on Tuesday, March 11 Answer:
I remember you... you looked REALLY bummed. I'm gonna take up a collection and buy you some platform shoes so you can see over the head of the guy in front of you next time. I remember you...

Question:
How does the band member manage not to become def after so many concerts. Do they wear anything to protec their ears?
asked by Kathy on Friday, March 7 Answer:
WHAT? Only kidding. They're very careful of the volume that they monitor with onstage. And after 20-some years of doing this, the guys all have the majority of their hearing... I used to think they were losing their hearing when I spoke to them, but then I realized they were ignoring me all the time.

Question:
I was completely wiped out after the show in Boston, so it makes me wonder how on earth the guys do it night after night?
asked by Cathy Loves Bon Jovi on Sunday, March 9

Answer:
What most people don't know is these guys train like world-class athletes to go out on a tour. On their days off they don't sit in bed all day. They're at the gym working out. They watch what they eat. They watch what they drink. They try to keep themselves in the best possible shape because they realize the expense fans incur in order to come see a show and they want to give the fans a great show and make sure everyone leaves the venue and heads to their cars with a smile on their face. But yes, they're exhausted when they come off stage too.

Obie what do you do when no one is looking?

Question:
Does Jon and/or the band still keep in touch with KISS? When they opened for KISS, did KISS wear the makeup, or was it the bare-faced KISS? Any chance of a combined Bon Jovi/KISS show? That would be awesome.
asked by Moe Szyzlak on Tuesday, March 11 Answer:

Answer:
What? Wait a minute... those guys in KISS wear makeup? The band toured with KISS in 1984... makeup was off by then. They don't keep in touch - though they know each other through the industry. Don't bet your house on a Kiss / Bon Jovi tour.

Question:
What is the purpose of the shield that is in front of Tico during the shows?

Question:
wuts the easiest way to meet bon jovi? im serious here.. hehe. considering they are men, and not some cocky boyband guys, I think they would have more common curtisy in meeting their fans.. plus they seem to be pretty level headed
asked by Dana on Tuesday, March 11 Answer:
They are very level headed and they are the greatest collection of down to earth human beings I've ever met but it is not easy to get close to them between their work, their schedule and their wanting to have a real life with their families. I have to make an appointment to see Jon 10 months in advance!

Question:
Obie, did the guys sleep over at your house after the Philly concert?
asked by Canukgrannie on Tuesday, March 11 Answer:
Yes. And I'm cutting up the sheets that Jon slept on - just like the help did at The Plaza when The Beatles stayed there - so I can sell them.
