* LINCON LOCKER *
NOTE: This modafication can be potentialy dangerous and in no way should it be done with out knowing the effects beforehand. The Lincon Locker was named by the guy who used a lincon welder to weld the differential gears together in his rear axle. This is the cheapest way to lock a rear end. Although might I add it's locked ALL the time. A conventional mechanical locker is unlocked while driving on the street,and locks when a certain amount of slipage is reached. This means you can turn corners and make U turn with out it locking. With the lincon locker you are locked no matter what. This cuts down on the sometimes harsh engaging and disengaging, but you have no give to turn. That makes normal driving just a pain. With no differential the tires churp any time you are not going straight. Pulling in the drive way, making U turns and just driving to work become harder. at the same time you wear your tires out twice as fast. Knowing all this we did it anyways. Josh was going to swap in a dana 44 under his TJ, so we figured why not, it would be gone in a matter of weeks anyways. So we took the jeep to my work and had a co-worker weld the gears for us. Note: If you are going to perform this modification have the gears welded by a profesional. Otherwise the welds might not hold and leave you stranded
The gears thar will be welded are your side gears and pinion gears inside your diff carrier. This allows the axles to be directly conected to each other. Make sure the gears are clean and dry before welding. Once done make sure all the weld splater is off the ring and pinion gears, seal the diff, and fill to correct level. So now you locked, what should you expect? besides what we already went over, theres no telling. To are surprise josh's jeep started to pul wheelies. The jeep was so flexy and the tires (super swamper SSR) griped so well the body tilted while making U turns and lifted the inside wheel. To correct for this we put the rear sway bar back on and swaped out the swampers and put on the A/T. That kept body role down and allowed the tires to give. Note: Although it looks cool to lift a tire on the street it is very dangerous and extreme caution while driving must be taken Enough with the downs, having a welded rear end off-road kick A$$ . the jeep climbed over a lot more even in two wheel drive, and performed unbelivable on the rocks. Final Note: This mod is not for everybody. If you use your rig as a daily driver I would recomend against it. In fact Josh Says and I quote " It's the worst thing in your life" pertaining to road use. But if you have an off-road use only vehicle, its a cheap way to inhance you vehicles performance, and take on anything in your way.
