Presidents Message
AORN Rockford Chapter 1403
October 2007

Welcome back to what is going to be an exciting year for Rockford Chapter AORN!!!  We have already hit the ground running with a picnic at Rock Cut and a great presentation by Dr. Klazura and Julie Dibler, RN.  They have set the bar high, so lets hope we can have several more presentations that captivate us and provide us with the CEUs that we all need.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our newly elected officers for 2008-2009:  President-Elect, Deb Persaud; Vice-President, Nicki Perrine; Secretary, Lucy McCoy; Treasurer, Stacy Durack; and Board Member, Ellen Borseth.  As your President, I have big shoes to fill.  Our past Presidents have been not only inspirational in their leadership, but hard acts to follow.  As a first-time President, I will look to them for direction and advice.  I will also be looking to you, the members, for suggestions and commitment to make this another successful year.
Our annual golf outing is our primary source of fundraising and has been a great success for eight years.  This will be the first year for a Golf Outing Committee that will consist of the Vice-President and the 2 Board Members.  I hope the formation of this committee will help distribute the workload and commitment necessary to host our annual golf outing.  As always, the past chairpersons will be available to assist and advise our new committee members.
The 56th AORN Congress will be held in Chicago on March 14 March 19, 2009.  This years theme is:  Embrace the Future.  This is a great opportunity for our chapter members to attend Congress; by attending you will accumulate those CEUs that are required, develop new friendships, rekindle old friendships, and renew the energy that lead you to surgical nursing in the first place.  Plus, who wouldnt want to celebrate St. Patricks Day in Chicago?
Our meetings will continue to be the first Wednesday of every month, except for January (holiday break).  There is a schedule listed on the website of the various locations.  Please help us to increase interest in surgical nursing and AORN by being active in the local chapter and recruiting others to join.
I am looking forward to this year and I hope that as your President, it will be successful, educational and of course, FUN!!!
