Meeting Minutes September 2, 2009 The meeting was held at the home of Deb Persaud. Pizza and ice cream cake was provided by cashing in two gift certificates left over from the golf outing. SAMC provided drinks and salads. I. Call to order Meeting was called to order at 4:30 pm by Deb Persaud. II. Treasurer�s Report a) Golf outing profit: $3,334.60. b) Balance on hand: $9,858.51. c) Please submit bills to Pam Polisksa, Treasurer III. Future Chapter Meetings October � OSF St. Anthony Medical Center Board Meeting 4:00 pm, Business Meeting 4:30 pm, Program: 5:00 pm Program Topic: Venous Thromboembolism: A Public Health Crisis Presenter: Noelle Tochet of Huntleigh Healthcare. 1 contact hour November � RMH - Anne Marie Herlehy RN, MSN, CNOR, Vice President of AORN and President-elect candidate for the 2010 National ballot December � Dinner meeting February � Pre-Congress March - April � Post Congress May - June � Installation of officers AORN Congress is March 13, 2010 in Denver, CO. IV. Illinois Council of Operating Room Nurses (ICORN) a) The fall meeting is October 24, 2009 at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park. It will be an all day conference because in between two meeting sessions will be a continuing education program featuring several presenters covering various topics. This is being organized by Bill Duffy (past president of AORN) who will also present. Topics include: fire safety, sponge counting, EMR and bylaws. b) 4.0 contact hours will be awarded. Cost is $35 at the door. Deb P. is going/who would like to go with her. Several members present expressed interest. Please contact Deb P at [email protected]. V. Announcements Deb shared information from national. Awards: nominations are now being accepted for the awards for all areas of perioperative nursing such as education, practice, and mentoring. Vacancies to be filled: � a CNOR to sit on the perfusionist board. � State legislative coordinator for Illinois Meeting VI. Scholarship for student nurse Members present discussed reestablishing a chapter scholarship to be awarded to a student nurse. In the past, we presented this award at the June meeting to a senior or graduate with an interest in perioperative nursing. It was awarded based on academic merit and financial need. Deb P will inquire at OSF and Lucy McCoy will draft a letter to the schools of nursing. VII. Fund Raising a) All agreed that we as a chapter and individuals should patronize those businesses that supported our golf outing. b) Pam Poliska offered to donate small wooden candle holders with candles for chapter fund raising or any other purpose decided by the chapter. She makes them from fallen wood on her property. They are attractive, rustic, and definitely a recycled green product. Each one is unique. Pam will bring more samples to the next meeting for further discussion. VIII. Adjournment Meeting was adjourned at 5:30 pm for dinner. Next meeting is October 7 at OSF St. Anthony.
