Location: Burning Hulk of BRDM (25 Meters south of Captured Duece)
Time: 0530 20 July 2000
<CPT Cappanetti lets the Tank Breaker fly...and the missile slams into the back of the turret, blowing it several
feet into the air! Suddenly the BRDM EXPLODES in a massive ball of flame! Everyone shields their eyes, but continue
to watch in amazement, not quite believing that the Quartermaster puke actually hit it!>
CPT Wolfe is the first to snap out of it. He keys the mike and says "Rattler 1, this is Cobra 1. Should we
see what we can salvage from the BDRM? Break. If not, I'm gonna sweep the area, about 100m out. And I'll be Reeeeely
QUIET.
Cobra 2, this is Cobra 1. Everything where it's supposed to be? Over.
What's the word with Viper 1?"
CPT Cappanetti looks at the burning hulk of the BRDM and lets out a loud "Yeeeieieiehaaaauw!" "I
guess that 30 second crash course I got actually paid off!"
SSG Martinez just shakes his head and laughs. "Good shootin' sir"
"Cobra 1 this is Rattler 1:If there's anything to scrounge, scrounge it fast. We need to hightail it outta
here...Let's scoot around the bend an' stop just outta sight o' the village. Oh, and don't forget to bring the
jarhead!"
"Roger that, Cobra 1 out."
SGM Martinez checks himself over, then checks out SGM Brantley, who is starting to return to reality. Brantley
looks drained, but other than that, okay. He keys his mike and says "Cobra 1 this is Cobra 2: everything is
good to go. The jarhead looks like he'll be okay."
"Roger that, Cobra 2" replies CPT Wolfe.
CPT Wolfe checks the chamber of his M16, and cautiously moves towards the burning BRDM. He doesn't want to get
too close as the ammunition in the BRDM is still cooking off. A quick inspection (from a safe distance) reveals
that the vehicle contains nothing worth salvaging. CPT Wolfe then begins to sweep about 100 meters out, to secure
the objective.
SSG Cutter looks around, looking for the impact of the rounds that came a little too close for comfort... He finds
the bullet holes about 2 feet off the ground.
Location: Near the Road -700 meters East of the Captured Duece
Time: 0535 20 July 2000
SGT Holland turns to his companion and tells him to hold tight. He then pulls back into the woodline and heads
west towards the battlesite. It's easy to locate the battlesite, as there is a large column of thick black smoke
rising from it. After several minutes, you catch a glimpse of someone about 50 meters away, who quickly drops out
of sight.
SSG Cutter catches movement in the woods, and quickly drops to the ground. He figures it has to be human, as the
stench of death would keep most animals away. He catches the attention of CPT Wolfe and makes few quick hand signals
to him.
Location: 500 meters Northwest of the captured Duece
Time: 0531 20 July 2000
<SGM Stewart mutters "communist scum" as his squeezes the trigger...the M16 barks several quick bursts,
the soldier grunts, grabs his stomach and falls to the ground.>
SGM Stewart cautiously approaches the soldier, just in case he is still alive. SGM Stewart nears the soldier, who
has not moved, and kicks his weapon away. He nudges the soldier with the muzzle of his M16, and the soldier does
not move. SGM Stewart checks for a pulse, and finds that the soldier is still alive, though unconscious. SGM Stewart
administers first aid (using up his med kit). SGM Stewart secures the soldier's weapon and ammunition (AK-74 with
2 mags).
Location: The village of Ladek Stary (15 km West of the Captured Duece)
Time: 0530 20 July 2000
<The older man says "My name is Josef, and I am the commander of this village's defense forces. By the
way, the name of this village is called Ladek Stary. This here is SGT VanClete, a Danish Tanker. He says he was
part of the 1-40th Armor. A group of my hunters found him in the woods northwest of here.">
Capt. Lee looks at each of the individuals. He focuses on Josef. "I'd like to thank the village for it's hospitality.
I don't plan on staying very long. In fact, I'd like to get moving as soon as possible. However, I'd like to repay
you for your food and shelter. For the time being, I will work as a guard. If possible, I'd like a better weapon
than the one I have." he pats his holstered M9. "If you can, Mr. Josef, I'd like some information about
the surrounding area, like who is friendly and who is not."
He then looks at SGT. VanClete. "1-40 Armored huh? Well, I was part of 4-12 Cav. How'd a Dane get hooked up
with the 1-40? I guess you and I are stuck here for awhile. Like I said to Mr. Josef, I don't plan on staying here
long. I think Soviets are looking for stragglers. I'm thinking of heading West to Germany or South to the Free
city of Krakow. I could use some company, if you're interested." he holds his right hand out to shake VanClete's.
SGT VanClete turns to the young man, you turns to Josef. Josef then speaks to the young man, obviously translating.
The young man then turns to SGT VanClete and speaks to him, obviously translating.
While the young man is translating, Josef looks over CPT Lee... He then says "We can always use an extra guard.
As for a better weapon, we don't have much, a Soviet patrol came through and confiscated most of our weapons and
ammunition, as well as whatever supplies that were not hidden. We thought about fighting, but they seemed to be
part of regulars, not marauders. We could have taken them, but didn't want to risk the retaliatory attacks. Our
supplies are still at a decent level, but our weapons and ammunition are in short supply. We'll see what we can
do. As soon as my scouts come in, I will catch you up on the situation in this area. They should be in around 8
or so."
