History of the Jaycees...
The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce (USJCC) was officially formed in 1920 by Henry Giessenbier of St. Louis to provide "an organization that would allow young men to develop their business skills and reputations within the community." At the time, most men would work with one company for the duration of their professional careers and, with a lot of hard work, would be fortunate to rise to a management level by the time they reached their forties. Mr. Giessenbier believed that with the right opportunities, young men could develop the management and leadership skills early in their careers, to the advantage of the individual and the professional community. The Michigan Junior Chamber of Commerce was founded in September, 1924 at the Old City Club in Jackson at the invitation of the Jackson Junior Chamber. There were representatives from Detroit, Flint, Saginaw and Pontiac in attendance. Since inception, both the USJCC and the Michigan Junior Chamber of Commerce have grown in membership, spirit and recognition for the work provided by it's members. Information provided by USJCC and MIJC websites and quotes taken from therein.
We Believe, That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life; That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations; That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise; That government should be of laws rather than men; That earth's great treasure lies in human personality; And service to humanity is the best work of life.
