In a "world without pockets", a pouch or purse was a critical fashion accessory. Hung from a belt or girdle the pouch was - and is - a simple way to carry one's personal effects appropriate for both men and women. Pouches came in many different shapes and sizes and can be made of leather or fabric and are usually decorated. Women�s pouches can be hung on a long drawstring. More than one pouch can be worn at the same time.
