| Basic gear **Backpack (female: 55 litres male: 65 litres) **Hiking boots (of good quality!) **Waterproof clothing **Sleeping bag, mat, (NO inflatable mattress; when it's wet, it doesn't dry and it's just too heavy!) inflatable pillow (very comfy, when you're not used to sleeping on the ground)Tent, large enough for yourself and your backpack (not everyone of us kept that rule...) **Cooking-set. We had one fuel burner and small gas bulbs. (And aluminium pans of course...) We also brought a fuel-tablet set (esbit) for emergencies **Water filter & water-filtering tablets so we wouldn't dehydrate. Clothing: The key is to take as much as you need nothing more. We went away for one month, so I packed: **A fast-drying blouse **Two t-shirts, made of light fabric so that they would dry easily **Two pair of trousers; one zip-off and one fast-drying **A pair of hiking boots & sandals **Underwear and socks (not too many) **One fleece sweater **Biodegradable soap to wash my clothes in (and to wash myself with) Extra things **Photo camera (we did not bring a digital camera, but that comes in hand, since it is light-weight and you don't have to fear for your photo's when it rains since they are safely inside a small disk) **DEET (very important in Scotland.... Midges!) **Cap with built-in mosquito net (very useful) **Sports towel **First-aid kit **String and bin-bags (always comes in hand!) **Flashlight (waterproof) |
