The Creation of the Amazon Nation

Gabrielle was confused she could not understand why she had been summoned back to the Amazon’s village. She only wished that she could have gotten more information from the messenger. The poor little child was barely old enough to be alone she tried to be brave but it was easy to see she was scared and confused. It was not like the Amazon’s to send a child to do a woman’s job. This worried her but it seemed to worry Xena more. She had barely said two words since they started the journey this morning. Gabrielle looked around this section of forest was very dark and foreboding every tree was draped with moss and the forest floor was covered with ferns. Gabrielle was concerned that she didn’t hear the usual forest sounds no birds singing no frogs croaking and no crickets. Why was it so quite? She was sure Xena knew. Xena knows everything. She laughed. Damn Libra's she thought. Finally she decided to break the silence.

"Xeeeeeeennnnnnnnaaaaaaaa" She whined. She knew how much that would work her nerves.

"Why are you so quiet? It’s really making me crazy, between you and the forest I think I am losing it"

"You lost it along time ago" Xena said not cracking a smile.

"Stop it! Tell me why are you so quiet, what is wrong"

"And don’t tell me nothing or I swear I’ll club you."

"Gabrielle there is something bad going on. I can feel it. I don’t know what it is but it involves this trip and it involves the Amazons."

"Great I hate it when you get these hunches. Now I feel soooooo much better"

"I knew you wouldn’t really want to know but you are so nosey". Damn Taurus, Xena thought, They will never learn that curiosity killed the cat. So friggin stubborn.

Gabrielle not only didn't feel better as a matter of fact she felt worst. Xena was right, not that Gabrielle would ever let her know that. When they arrived in the Amazon village Gabrielle could tell things were not right. It seemed half the village was empty. Houses were boarded up, shops were closed, and there were very few people milling about. Gabrielle noticed that most of the people left were of the warrior caste. Few people know enough about the Amazons to know that they were divided into 4 castes workers, artists, warriors, and priestesses. The priestesses being the most important to the village because they play several roles as healers, scholars and of course as priestesses. That’s what surprised Gabrielle the most no priestesses anywhere. Xena was also surprised by the lack of security. It sucked they walked right into the village and were not challenged. She saw very few guards and even fewer people. She could also sense Gabrielle's fear and this made her feel even worst. She loved Gabrielle so much and she had long ago learned to handle the constant fear of losing her to the millions of dangers they face every single friggin week, but she has never been able to get over the emotional worry, the desire to make Gabrielle happy no matter what.

"Gabrielle I don’t like this at all"

"I know it worries me too, where is everybody?"

As they entered the center of the village a tall dark haired women approached them. If Gabrielle’s memory served her the woman’s name was Ryela she was Calypso’s partner. They had seen her once before on there last visit. She wore and typical Amazons warrior tunic except hers was much more ornate around the hem. It had a green pattern of interlocking crosses Gabrielle recognized from their trip to Britannia.

Ryela said, "Welcome your majesty it’s good to have you home."

Gabrielle looked at Xena with a self-satisfied smirk. "You don’t have to refer to me that way just call me Gabrielle. Where is Calypso and for that matter where is everyone else."

" I have a lot to explain to you and Xena, please come with me to the meeting house."

As they entered the meeting house Gabrielle thought it was more like a meeting hut, the floor was dirt and the walls were bare wood planks and the roof, what was left of it, was thatch. They both noticed it had been well used in the last few days half-eaten food was everywhere. Maps and diagrams were spread out all over. There was smoke in the air from the torches that had obviously been burning all night.

"Sorry for the mess things are crazy. Let me fill you both in. Calypso is meeting with the other Amazon tribe leaders near Athens. There is a great crisis in the Amazon world. Several tribes have vanished. We fear a great evil is at work."

"Vanished?" Xena said unconsciously reaching for her sword.

"We don’t know much the reports are schetchy at best. It appears the tribes in Britannia, the northern territories, and the far east, have all vanished. Threats have been delivered to the remaining tribes ordering us to abandon our sinful ways and go back to the world of men once again."

Both Gabrielle’s and Xena’s mouths dropped open.

Gabrielle was the first to recover. "By the light. What the, I mean who the hell would make that kinda request and what do they mean sinful."

Xena responded, "The Romans aren't too keen on 'Alternative Lifestyles' these days but surely they have no room to talk!"

Ryela shook her head. "Its not the Romans Calypso believes it’s the Tanru. She doesn’t trust an all male tribe, especially when they practice magic. But they are so few and there magic has never been directed against anyone in the past. I think it’s the Jews from the south they have been networking all over the Mediterranean. Either way someone has been instigating a very strong movement against us and our lifestyle in the common people."

Xena nodded "Yes I have seen it. People have given me some very nasty stares as of late, well nastier than usual."

Gabrielle look confused, "I don’t get it, why is this change happening now especially with me just coming out of the closet? I mean what am I like the worst luck charm ever."

Xena tried hard not to laugh. "Stop Gabby this is serious you know better than that. This change started when the Greek Gods went into decline. The Gods are losing power. Without people to worship them they are fading away. The Romans only worship shades of our Gods and that gives them little power. Even the Gods in India have lost some of their power I think something bigger is going on here. I believe the reign of the Gods is coming to an end. And even though I never liked the Gods I don’t like the way the population’s beliefs are shifting. Its seems we are getting further from love not closer to it."

"There is a lot to fear and worry about these days. The village council came up with a plan they want to reunite all the Amazon tribes and move to another land or mabe an island. It will be like coming home. The first Amazons came from the island of Lesbos. Then we split. We hope that since we are the First Tribe, the keepers of the royal heritage, the other tribes will follow our plan."

Xena looked angry, "the answer is not running, we have to fight!"

Gabrielle looked equally as angry but it was not at Ryela. "Xena fighting is not always the answer I don’t think this idea is so bad its time the Amazons got together and created there own country."

For the first time Ryela smiled, "I'm glad you’re on board with this Gabrielle as queen you must show unwavering support for this plan for it to work."

"Well I still don’t like it but Gabrielle is right about the Amazons uniting its time to heal the split. But if this power can affect tribes as far away as Britannia and Asia where can you go that is safe. I still think we will have to fight this power who or what ever it represents."

Ryela nodded in agreement. "Oh we will fight we have 10 tribes to defend 500 people. Even as we speak everyone is heading for Athens. We have a plan that involves Athena, you and Gabrielle."

Xena and Gabrielle settled into bed. Several candles were burning all over the room. Gabrielle was giving Xena her usual nightly message. She was sitting behind her rubbing hot lavender oil on her shoulders. Xena wrapped Gabrielle's legs around her waist and started rubbing her calves.

"Gabby I don’t like this at all moving everyone to one spot is dangerous and where do they think they’re going to go. There is way to much mystery here for my liking."

Gabrielle kissed Xena on the neck. "I know I don’t like it either but we have gotten through worst. I just worry about my roll as Queen. I am not comfortable with it and I am going to be expected to convince 500 people to put aside their differences and move from their homes forever."

Xena laughed, "Gabrielle, you could convince fish to leave water if you tried and you know it. After all you made me into a Lesbian!!"

The cry of pain could be heard for several miles……..

Once Gabrielle assured the sentinels that Xena was not dying they got back into bed.

"Did you see them snickering they think we were doing it!!!" "You didn’t have to scream so loud."

"You didn’t have to pinch my pressure points either, you're going to have to massage me for another hour or two just to undo the damage to my poor muscles."

"Xena you know I hate that word and you know you have been gay since birth."

It was now Gabrielle's turn to scream. The insueing battle led to many more screams, of the more pleasurable kind, before the candles went out for the night.

The next morning Xena was up first as usual by the time Gabrielle woke up there was no one in sight. Gabrielle wiped the sleep out of her eyes as she walked into the meeting house. She saw Ryela and Xena looking over some maps.

"So what's on the agenda for today?"

"Good morning sleepy head, I’m glad to see you are up and about."

"Bite me Xena. You could have waken me when you got up."

"Well you are the Queen I figured you needed your royal sleep." Xena and Ryela laughed causing Gabrielle to giggle in spite of herself.

"Our agenda today, Gabrielle, is to head into Greece to meet with Calypso. I want to leave in a couple of hours."

Gabrielle decided she should probably take a bath, as it would most likely be her last time for a while. As she reached the door she heard several shouts coming form the northern part of the village. Before she could turn around Xena and Ryela were running past her toward the commotion. By the time Gabrielle got there everything was quiet. Several warriors were lying on the ground near the square. As she walk further she saw Xena and Ryela. She rushed over to Xena and checked her pulse. She was snoring. Sleeping like a little baby. So was Ryela. Gabrielle noticed two men standing near a hut. She raised her staff and prepared to charge. She noticed the men were unarmed. She could sense these men meant no harm. It was strange but she just knew they were good. Trusting her intuition but keeping her staff up she said, "Who are you and what have you done to them!"

The taller man turned to face Gabrielle he was very handsome. Reddish blond hair and sapphire blue eyes. He was wearing a green tunic with gold symbols running down the buttons and around the sleeves. "My name is Justice and this is my life partner Xander we have not harmed them they are just sleeping. We are looking for the queen."

Standing as tall as she could Gabrielle said, "I think you have found her and she is not pleased. What do you want."

It was the other mans turn to speak. Gabrielle noticed he was shorter but still very handsome. He had dark brown hair and jet black eyes. He was dressed all in brown, his tunic had several animals embroidered around the collar and on the sleeves. "Your majesty I am truly sorry but they attacked us, we meant no harm we were only defending ourselves. We have traveled a long way to offer you are help."

"Well you would be a great help if you would revive my people. My life partner is going to need to hear what you have to say and she is not going to be happy. Especially since she is now drooling with her face in the dirt."

Xander reached into his bag. Gabrielle raised her staff. Xander pulled out a handful of dust and began blowing it into everyone’s face starting with Xena. Slowly everyone begin to awake. Xena was first on her feet. She saw Gabrielle standing close by and the men, which had first invaded the village. She looked at Gabrielle. "What’s going on?"

"Well Xena it appears you and your Amazon warrior friends went ballistic on these two men for no reason and they kicked your ass."

"Ha ha ha!" Xena turned not smiling. "What did you do to us?"

"It was fairy dust, it simply put you to sleep no harm was done I promise" Xander moved in closer to Justice and held his hand.

Ryela looked at Justice; "You are Tanru aren’t you."

Justice turned to her. "We are as I said before My name is Justice and this is my life partner Xander we have traveled from Brittiana to find the queen of the Amazons and offer out help."

Xena look at him. "Why do you want to help the Amazons"

"Because we are facing the same problem that you are. Let me explain. Xander and me were recently joined. We had left the village for the traditional honeymoon journey to the scared place. When we returned to our village everyone was gone. We feared the worst. Immediately we preformed a spell to give us insight to what had happened. Something was blocking our site, we couldn’t see what happened but we did find out where are people were. We traveled several days to a village we were horrified to discover all the people of our village were there. It was terrible (He looked at Xander then back to Xena) they were..............Straight. Not only were they straight but they were married to the women of the Amazon tribe from the southern plains. We tried talking to them but they had been brainwashed. They had forgotten their past and the other people of the village seemed to believe our people had always been there. It was like history was rewritten. Our magic had no effect and once the people learned we were a couple they ran us out of town. We traveled to the mainland to find our king. Luckily he was ok and our people there were fine but they had received a threatening letter warning that they must change their sinful ways. Our king, Thespus, preformed a spell to ask our guides what we should do. Our spirits told us that there was a great evil moving across the land and that the key to its defeat lay with the Amazons. So here we are."

Gabrielle decided that everyone should eat so she ushered everyone to the meeting house and ordered lunch to be brought in. Xena was still looking weary. Ryela seemed fascinated. She had confided in Gabrielle that she was from Britannia and that her tribe had been saved by the Tanru many years before she was born. She had always longed to meet one in the flesh. Once everyone had eaten Gabrielle asked Xander to tell him or her more about their history.

Xander set back in his seat.

Xena stopped picking her teeth and looked at Xander. "You mean cupid only saved the men. How typical is that!"

Gabrielle smiled "please forgive her she was raised in a barn."

Xander laughed "that’s good her and Justice should get along."

Next thing you know Gabrielle and Xander were covered in a barrage of olives courtesy of Xena and Justice. Everyone felt better and were soon chatting like old friends. Well Xander and Gabrielle were chatting the others were listening like old friends. It was decided that they would leave for Athens in the morning. Ryela found Justice and Xander a hut and began to supervise the final packing of the village in preparation for the journey.

Justice and Xander walked out of the village holding hands they climbed up a steep hill to a tree at the top. They spread a blanket out under the tree and laid down. The view from the hill was wonderful you could see the forest stretching out for miles in all directions. They could see the village and all the people running to and fro. From there perch the Amazons looked like ants. Xander kissed Justice deeply. Justice smiled.

"We have been through quite alot my little one. I’m afraid you’re going to be sorry you married me."

"I could never be sorry every time I look into your beautiful blue eyes I remember falling in love with you all over again. I was thinking you would feel I was bad luck." He smiled.

"Welllllllll I was considering giving you a charm!"

"You are evil." Xander rolled over and pretended to pout. Justice jumped him and they went rolling.

When they finally got back to the village they ran into Gabrielle. She noticed the roughed up look and the grass in their hair. "I would say you two got attacked but usually attacking people don’t give their victims hickeys." Xander smiled and Justice blushed so much so his face matched his hair.

Justice quickly changed the subject. "When is dinner?"

"Dinner is in an hour that should give you plenty of time to bath and clean yourselves up. You better enjoy it I doubt we will have anytime for that on the road."

The next morning everyone was up early. Xena and Ryela road point and Gabrielle, Xander and Justice took up the rear position. Upon arriving outside of Athens they found a small city had risen up with more Amazons arriving daily from the outlying regions. Ryela found Calypso and caught her up on the events. She welcomed all the help she could get but was still leery of the Tanru. She so didn’t trust men especially at this time. But she trusted Ryela and Xena seemed to be ok with it so she let it slide. Her meetings were not as productive as she hoped, but after Justice told the leaders what happened to the Britannia tribe there was a quick change of minds and soon everyone was on board with the plan. Messengers were sent to all the remaining tribes to order the people to Athens. Carpenters began building the boats they would need to move 500 people to their new home. Once they discover it.

The next night was the full moon. The head priestess from each tribe, Xena, Gabrielle, Calypso, Ryela, Justice and Xander all journeyed to the city to the temple of Athena. The priestess of the temple cleared out for the Amazons. Xander noticed, as the moon rose, it began to shine through the window over the statue of Athena bathing it in light. The priestess took position in front of the statue in a circle. They removed all of their cloths and began to chant. Incense was burning everywhere. Gabrielle could feel the power pulsing through the room. She recognized the old Greek chant the priestesses where using it was a call for help to Athena. As the moon rose into the center of the window the priestess began to chant louder and louder. Soon the center of the circle began to glow. The priestesses dropped to the floor and there was a great flash of light. Xena was the first to see her appear. Right in the center of the circle was a woman. She was quite tall with dark brown hair and blue eyes. She was dressed in a red white and blue outfit with a gold belt and a gold rope. She looked very confused. Gabrielle stepped forward.

"Are you Athena?"

"No, my name is Diana, I am Wonder Woman."

Xander smiled "Wonder Woman?"

"Yes I am an Amazon princess empowered by the gods to help fight evil. Where am I and who may I ask are all of you."

Xena walked over to Diana. "I am Xena the warrior princess and you are in Athens in the temple of Athena. The blond with her mouth hanging open is Gabrielle current Queen of the Amazons. The two men are Xander and Justice. The women to there left are Calypso leader of the Royal Amazon tribe and her partner Ryela. The ladies on the floor are the priestesses of the 4 remaining tribes. They are the ones who brought you here."

Diana looked around. She felt a little dizzy but her mind was beginning to grasp the situation. "Wow!"

Justice looked confused "wow?"

"I’m sorry this is so cool. This is the past. I mean I am from the future. I was always taught that a Amazon from the future was brought back to the past to help during a great crisis but I didn’t think it would be me."

Calypso looked relieved "Thank Athena since you are from the future you can tell us all we need to know, you have all the answers."

"Well I don’t have all the answers but even if I did I have to be very careful I cannot change the past otherwise I may change the future. Time travel is a dangerous thing."

Xena looked ill "you mean you aren’t going to tell us anything. What good are you going to be, I don’t think you are going be much of a threat prancing around in your little jump suit with that little gold string. You don’t even have any weapons."

Diana laughed, "You think you can take me."

"I think I could mop the floor up with you, hell even the fairy boys here could take you."

Xander restrained Justice quite discreetly.

"Ok Xena put you gold plated breasts where your mouth is."

Things happened fast after that. Xena lunged for Diana who jumped over her head and was out the door in a flash.

"Come on Xena is that the best you can do you must be getting old."

Xena came flying out of the temple. "ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyayayyyayayayayyyy" Diana ducked and rolled Xena flew over her head. Everyone emptied out of the temple.

Diana and Xena were now standing face to face. Xena could see the pissed off look on Gabrielle’s face and knew she would pay for this later. Xena assessed Diana she was good but Xena had to know how good. Xena and Diana circled each other for several seconds. Justice was amazed at their strength and agility. Before he could comment on it to Xander, Xena was up in the air flipping over and over and over. She flipped back around intending to land a kick in the small of Diana’s back however, Diana was way to quick she grabbed Xena’s ankle and twisted. Xena fell Flat on her face landing hard on the temple courtyard.

Diana laughed "did little Xena fall down go boom."

Xena was not please she kicked her leg free and back flipped to the edge of the courtyard. "Well Diana lets she how well you do against steel."

Intending to slice off a nice piece of Diana’s hair Xena pulled out her Shockrum and launched it toward Diana. In the flash of and eye Diana deflected the shockrum off the bracelet on her wrist and sent it flying back toward Xena.

"Nice shockrum Xena I bet you can even cut cheese with it."

That was it Xena ran back bounced off the wall and started summer salting toward Diana.

Diana called out "Nice Xena I give you a 9.5 for effort." Before anyone could blink, however, Xena had flipped up in the air turned around and landed a swift kick into Diana’s butt. Diana went flying across the courtyard and slammed into a statue. It was now Xena’s turn to laugh. Diana stood up straightened her teaira and her belt then in one fluid motion grabbed her lasso and threw it around Xena. Xena struggled for a moment then froze.

"What the hell is this (she tried struggling again) this is a magic rope that’s cheating."

"I don’t think so Xena, and you’re right this is a magic lasso. As a matter of fact my little wimpy gold string has the power to force anyone to tell the truth. I think maybe I should let Gabrielle test this by asking you any question she wants."

Xena went pale. "I don’t think that’s a good idea. I give up you win, your the be.......as good as me. Now please let me go."

Gabrielle was jumping up and down "No I want my question! Pleaassseeeeeee."

Diana laughed, as did the others. She flicked her wrist and Xena was free. She then walked over and shook Xena’s hand. "I think its fair to say we both assessed each others skills adequately. I hope there is no hard feelings."

"No hard feelings. Maybe a sore spot or two." They both laughed.

On the way out of the city back to the camp Gabrielle and Xander got Diana up to speed on the situation.

The next morning Xena decided to go on an extra long run to work out the kinks from the night before. When she returned to camp she saw Justice doing pull ups on a tree branch.

"I see you work out"

"Well I like to keep in shape. I believe a sharp mind and a well disciplined body can solve most any problem."

"That’s a good philosophy. I see that Xander doesn’t share it with you" She smiled.

Justice laughed. "Xander's philosophy is a sharp mind and an open mouth can solve any problem!"

" I see we do have alot in common. I though Gabrielle and Xander would talk Diana to death last night."

"I think it is cute. You have to give them credit. They can tell a story."

"I give her credit trust me but never to her face!" They both laughed.

Later in the day, Gabrielle came running to Xena and Diana.

"Xena a tribe from the upper Macedonia has just arrived and they reported that one of there scouting parties disappeared. They tried hunting for them and they found their weapons but there was no trace of the people."

"That is our goal then. Gabrielle, gather everyone up I want to be out of her within the hour."

Gabrielle saw Xena staring at Diana and smiling. She wondered if Xena had noticed how much Diana looked like her. The dark hair, the blue eyes and the strong supple body. It was like looking at Xena's sister or maybe her cousin it was really weird. Maybe it was Xena reincarnated that was a scary thought 2 Xenas. Imagine the possibilities. Gabrielle started to chastise herself for her dirty mind when Xena spoke up.

"Diana, you don’t want to tell about the future, but do you know who is responsible for this and what their plan is I think that would help."

"No, Xena, I don’t I was not given that information by Athena and if it is recorded in our history they didn’t teach it to me in school. I am as in the dark as you all are."

"Well then tell me do you think it could be the Gods? I’m not sure if you know this but my second child began their fall and up until recently they were after me constantly. Do you think this could be part of that."

"No I think that should be settling now as the new order begins."

"What do you mean new order?"

"Well Xena I guess that is something you all deserve to know. It can’t hurt. Let me start this story with a little prehistory you may not be aware of:"

Xena looked at Diana and said, "Do you think it’s these Gods seeking negativity that are responsible for the assimilation of the tribes, and the general rise in the intolerance of differences?"

Justice spoke next "I bet even money it is Aries. Ever since our King spurned his advances and refused to be is new, world conquest puppet he has had it in for us."

Xena Laughed, "Yea Yea join the club who doesn’t Aries have it in for and who hasn’t Aires tried to sleep with. This is way to well thought out for it to be Aries."

Ryela smiled and chimed in with "Well whoever it is I am sure it’s a man!"

Everyone laughed except Justice.

"I agree............with Xena" Diana said trying not to ruffle Justice’s feathers. "While Aries may be involved on some level, this is a joint effort. Someone is using magic, old magic, and they’re gaining power by destroying diversity and encouraging hate a nasty combination that has been used many times in the future to gain power."

It was Gabrielle's turn to speak, "You all know I’m all for finding peaceful solutions to conflicts but the idea that someone is converting people against their will and sowing seeds of hate is boiling my blood. I want to stop this and I want to stop this now!"

Xena grabs Gabrielle's hand "Gabrielle is right we have to put a stop to this once and for all. Xander when you and Justice were in the village did you try reversing the spell?"

"We tried. The magic is too strong."

"Do you think mortal is capable of doing a spell that strong"

"Yes, now that you say that it might very well be possible. The spell is very strong but is not very sophisticated. Someone may have been taught it and is using it but may not be a specialist in the craft. It could be anyone but they would have to have connections."

Diana thought for a moment then looked at Xena and Gabrielle " I think this is an example of the Yang Council trying to push a mortal into a position of power in order to increase their own power. It matches the pattern I have seen several times before."

Xena stood up and began to pace, "Great who is the Yang Council?"

"It’s the group of Gods I was talking about before the ones who refused the way of love. They come from many different pantheons. They are always causing trouble trying to push mankind toward hate. You and Justice’s friend Aires is one of them. I had no idea they had gotten together this soon. I was taught it would be at least a 100 years from now before they were organized as a group."

Xena and Justice both said, "How do we fight them?"

Diana looked sad for a moment "We cannot fight them directly, we can only fight their effects on this world. Only when humanity is finally ready to take the path of love will they be defeated." She then smiled "but we can kick the ass of whoever their current puppet is."

This brought a round of laughter from everyone even Justice. With the tension broken, everyone settled down with his or her partners. Diana volunteered to take the first watch since she was partnerless at this time. When she listened to all the cuddling and kissing going on all around her, she couldn’t help but think of Steve. I don’t think I am ever going to get you out of my head. I hate this whole bisexual thing you would think it would make life easier but it doesn’t. Diana smiled watching her great grandmothers lying together. This is such a thrill. Little do they know Xander will someday give them the gift of a baby together, and that baby will be the start of the new royal line of Amazons on our new island home. And with the ability to create our own offspring, using magic, the Amazons were able to once and for all separate from the world of man. Its sad the Tanru could not do the same but for all their magic there was still no way for a man to carry a baby. Not that they would really want to even if they could. She laughed to herself.
