Sheep in the Darkness
By: Adam Maillet

The age we live in can be scary at times: murder, rape, and robbery all plague our society. People feel helpless as they ascertain how little control they have over the world, that bad things are happening all around them. These citizens need something to blame, something to make them feel better about themselves, something to take responsibility for things they did not do. Rap music, video games, movies, and virtually every facet of the entertainment industry is volunteered to be the whipping boy for a confused and afraid generation of adults. Politicians discerned this feature in our culture years ago, and have since been slaughtering the First Amendment in a greedy struggle for scraps of power.

Every school shooting, every act of terrorism, every single event that makes people afraid, feeds this horrendous outbreak in America. Psychopathic kids in black trench coats commit unthinkable acts of violence: there are few darker days in history, yet the proper culprits were never truly blamed. In the aftermath that had everyone in America thinking twice about the world, victims were brought out and sacrificed at the pagan alter of the voting population of Middle America. It was so easy to blame those evil deeds on rap music and video games.

When ghastly acts happen in America, America does not set out to stop the problem, she feeds the hungry people a steak, in guise of a problem they can stop. The mainstream community is paralyzed by fear of danger, and the darkness that covers their eyes convinces them everything is ok. When a school shooting ensues, panic breaks out, people yell, What do I do? and Why did this happen? Scared and helpless they cower at the feet of those offering refuge. Embodied with a false sense of supremacy, the infuriated monster rears her ugly head on what she perceives is the spawning point of all malevolence.

The politicians appear before the people dressed in white robes, in the midst of panic they raise their hands, and the people listen. Like sheep to a Shepard, America is driven by ruthless politicians searching for a handhold on the mountain of power. Parents see their child doing poorly in school, they see signs of depression, and some even overlook bombs built in their own garages, but they are afraid, afraid of responsibility. Mothers and fathers could not possibly be the problem; or rather mothers and fathers could never diagnose themselves as the cancer that has infected the world we all know. Voters fear and hate this unknown fiend, and would rather die than accept the fact that they perhaps are the problem. It is so much easier not to do anything, blame rap music, and elect the man that claims he has all the solution to the terrible puzzle.

The corrupt rustlers of the pathetic community of cows inhabiting America wipe their filthy faces with the First Amendment. Forget about free speech, forget about the beliefs this country was founded on, forget about freedom, politicians do not need any of these things to get elected; all they need is a jihad against rap music. What effect has rap music had on the youth of America? None. Music is simply that, music. Instead of stepping forth out of the darkness and having her eyes burn from the light, America prefers the dank retched darkness, in which they will never have to see anything for themselves; only be guided by the politicians claiming to hold the lanterns.

America, I ask you to open your eyes, and take that painful step into the light. Rap music is not the problem, like a wart, the issues roots lie far beneath the surface. Cast away the wool that has been pulled over your eyes, then, and only then can we truly begin to work together for a greater future that we all desire.
