Pillowcase Skirt

the pillowcase skirt is just about the easiest thing i ever sewed in my whole life. i didn't come up with the idea of course; it came from Get Crafty, a cool crafy website. basically you take a pillowcase, cut off the closed end, make a casing and stick a drawstring in there. ha ha, great instructions, right? the wonderful think about the pillowcase skirt is that it will cost you little to nothing. i got my pillowcase at the thriftstore for like $.60.

here's more detailed instructions from the Get Crafty website. i made a few changes from the original design. first, i cut off the bottom and made a new hem. that makes a teensy bit more work for you; if you use the case as is you don't have to make a hem. but i am quite short and i needed the skirt to be shorter. You can also take the excess off the top of the case, where you cut the opening, but on my case that would have messed with the design and it just worked better to make a new hem. the article also has you make the drawstring out of the leftover pillowcase but that sounded like a lot of work. i happened to have some bias tape in my craft drawer from some unfinished project from 800 years ago so i used that instead!

it literally took me about 10 minutes to sew up the pillowcase skirt. god bless pillowcases!
