In the year 3000, high above the stations of the alliance, a phenomenal event occurred that forever made humanity consider the course of their history... FAN FICTION KANTOKA RECONNAISSANCE by Khyron_Prime...15 September 2004 From The Journal of Stephen Frankes, HT Motor Corps, Kantoka, Eastern Region I see gangs of them: Youngsters in streamlined clothing all gathered around their Cyc-4s. Looking over them, you can tell who does what: The big, burly guys are making swinging motions with their arms; the punks with the dyed hair are smoking leavess and laughing at their own jokes; the guys bent over an open protoculture engine move their fingers from outside to ignition. The world's become pretty clear-cut since the UEG took over. You've got people like me and you've got people like them. RoboPunks. Its a way of thinking--a natural outgrowth of humanity's desire to stand-out on our monocultural planet. So inevitably, people like me who went to college and got a good job and love the peace of this world are sitting here...watching the RoboPunks with a stare that can only scream "Yes." Urban Police, UEG, SN 016-552; Lieutenant Flakquist. Surveillance of RoboPunk gathering in south Kantoka has shown little out of ordinary. Visuals hold on leader, identified as Hiroshi Storm; audio surveillance points to potentially riotous activity in southeast portions of city with rival gang referred-to as "Islandwalkers." Admission of Storm's possession of illegal Invid leaves has been recorded in audio reconnaissance. Waiting for visual confirmation. SUPPLEMENTAL: Storm has mounted on his motorcycle, model Cyc-4 (civilian super-sport model), and has proceeded with his group toward the proto-shipping facility at Kantoka's southern end. Currently in pursuit, readying to disengage visual camouflage and approach target. REPORT OF ACTION: Released camouflage upon parallel riding with leader; command to disengage given to target; Storm verbally refused; remote protoengine shutdown given by hackcommand from officer's console; no result from remote action (later found to result from the illegal modifications to aforementioned Cyc-4 of protoculture-engine fuel transfer locks); target wields H-500 laser pistol and opens fire on officer, with two shots taken to left arm; officer utilises Strike-40 laser pistol and destroys central control panel of target vehicle, forcing shutdown of systems including drivetrain; target propelled from seat and subseqently apprehended without further incident. AUTHOR'S NOTES: 1) The premise of RoboPunks is one that is perhaps poorly developed in this piece, but nonetheless solid. I have, in fact, created an entire Role-Playing Game book entitled "ROBOPUNKS," and it is available, free of charge, to those who desire it. 2) Hardware references in this piece: Cyc-4: A Cyclone model in use since 2890. Optional transformation capabilities. Protoculture-powered drivetrain. Common amongst racing teams; expensive to maintain due to poor fuel efficiency. H-500: Issue pistol model for UEG and IA Cyclone teams since 2852. Strike-40: A streamlined pistol (5mm thick) available only to covert UEG operatives. Not yet available interstellarly. Remote Protohack Device: An illegal device used exclusively by UEG/IA forces that permits the transmission of the small Protoculture in the device to "talk" to the Protoculture in another device, forcing controllable shut-down in most cases. |
