| The Sweetest Thing wasn't a very sweet movie, but still a funny one. This film is very surprising too, with a few twists and turns. But it has lots of gross out humor but that was predicted. What I enjoyed most was hearing gross jokes from a woman's point of view, which I thought was very original and fresh. -Bethany- |
| I have to agree with Bethany on how it was surprising to see the women in this movie dishing out the more vulgar jokes. However, This movie was not very interesting to me as a comedy, but if you watch it with the idea in mind that it is not a comedy, but the following of these girls as they go on a drug binge it becomes a little more interesting. It makes the irrational story make more sense if it is about their perspective of life while using. It seems to help explain the scenes, and the movie as a whole becomes much more interesting. E.g. why did they take off their pants/skirts and instead use maps to cover themselves up? No one in their right mind would do that, but someone not of a sober mind might. Another example of this is during the less than realistic scene where Cameron Diaz and one of her roommates return to their apartment to be greeted by the police. It makes more sense if the cops were there responding to Diaz's third roommate's drug O.D. as opposed to the ridiculous situation her roommate was shown to be in. Another scene that I felt could easily be referring to this is when Diaz is searching in between her roommate's legs for lipstick while her roommate is driving, and the biker that sees this and is lead to believe it is something it is not, and after yelling and jumping around crashes into an obstacle. It seems to make more sense to me if Diaz was really just unconscious in her roommates lap while her roommate under the influence hit some guy on a motorcycle, however, in her mind she rationalizes this in an acceptable/comical way. I don't really believe they designed the movie with this hidden meaning, but it is fun to observe how easily it can be applied. -Bobby- |
