Shallow Hal is a very Shallow Movie. Hal Larsen, the main character of Shallow Hal, is a man that picks relationships with women strictly by their physical appearances. That is, until a self-help guru hypnotizes Hal into seeing women's personalities physically. Hal, then seeing women for only their inner beauty, starts getting into relationships with physically unattractive and obese women. Therefore, this movie is implying that to have a kind personality you must be either unattractive or obese, and if you are an attractive person you must not have a very deep personality.
Hal Larsen also has trouble getting into relationships with women when he is looking for physical beauty; however, when his perception is altered he has much more success in picking up women. Now this movie is reassuring a stereotype that obese people are easy.
Despite the many sterotypes this movie could have had potential if it simply had gone for a sappy comedy, but instead it decided to try and throw in drama where none was needed, and took to much time to try and explain such a ridiculous plot.
