Diamantina
We visited Diamantina over our anniversary weekend. This city was named for all the diamonds they found nearby. It is also the birthplace of Juscelino Kubitschek, perhaps the most famous 20th century Brazilian president. We visitied his old home in Diamantina. Kubitschek founded the current capital city, Brasilia.
This is a view of part of the city from our inn.
We stayed in the Pousada do Garimpo.
This is the Caminho do Esclavos (Slave's Road). The slaves were made to build it from the city to the river in order to carry supplies and food.
The inside of the churches were magnificent and full of gold. It is very awe-inspiring to look at now, I can only imagine seeing it when the gold was fresh and brilliant!
