I am now writing my Masters of Arts Thesis on physicality in theatre at Rhodes University, Grahamstown.

It is a little break from performance for me. I have been fortuante to perform quite extensively for the First Physical Theatre Company in the last few years. I was also nominated for the DaimlerChrysler Arts Award for South African Choreography for 2003.

My interest in personal history and the sites that mark personal experiences have not waned. I firmly believe they are the ingredients for ground-breaking and moving performances, useful not only to question the rules of "how to make theatre" but also "how I know myself", whether that "I" is the individual, the family, or a culture.

And the empty space of his shadow finished its performance lifespan in 2001. I have seen many different faces in the audience while peforming. Some were bored, some were intrigued, some cried. Some came to me afterwards and chatted, they were students, cultural or AIDS workers, anyone.

If I ever had to defend my theatre against the strong tides of commercialism or traditions, I would remember those faces and responses, and know that some were genuinely moved and had their lives reconsidered, if only briefly.

I will put more on this site on my thesis when it is done!

Thanks to all who support me.
