My Review On Mortal Kombat starring: Robin Shou, Christopher Lambert, Linden Ashby and Bridget Wilson

I personally went to this movie on accident. My ever faithful car broke down right next to the movie plex that was playing Mortal Kombat. Call it fate, Call it Destiny, Call in a real need for a new car...I was there for the long hall. I couldn't get a hold of a towing company, and no one was home at my house. So I decided to kick back and enjoy what I thought was going to be the worst remake of a game ever since **shudder** Streetfighter starring Jean Claude Van DARN IT! (sorry had to be done). Streetfighter was terrible, and here was Mortal Kombat, another movie based on a popular video game. God was this going to be awful, I could see it now.

I will be the first to admit I was TERRIBLY WRONG!   This movie was my first introduction to Hong Kong Super Star and Martial Arts Master, Robin Shou. He played the would be hero Liu Kang. And I have to tell you, he was very convincing. Not only did he have the look, he had the expression, the emotion, and the right Butt Kicking moves to be Liu Kang. His run up the wall spin kick was amazing, as was all of his Martial Arts moves. This guy knows his Martial Arts. So well, that he choreagraphed some of the fight scenes himself.

The Martial arts in this movie was INTENSE! It was not this cheesy acrobatic slapstick kind of Martial Arts you would see in  really old Hong Kong or Japanese films. This was hardcore on the edge of your seat nail biting action. So real in fact, Robin was injured during the filming of the fight between Liu Kang and Reptile (Played wonderfully by a great Martial Artist, Keith Cooke.)

Linden Ashby who plays Johnny Cage however, did steal the show with a few of his famous lines like "Those were $200. sunglasses a-hole" and "Hmm. Glad I didn't ask him to park the car." He had the movie star good looks, and the egotistical charm to pull off Johnny cage. He did a great job in the role. And Bridgette Wilson (who director and producers reffered to as the "Robo-babe" also was very convincing in her role as Sonya Blade. You could feel the intensity she had in the beginning of the movie, and see the slow, but sure softening Sonya went through as she bonded with her new friends (Especially Johnny Cage.) Most actresses would make this sudden change too abrupt and unconvincing, but She did a great job. (Congrats on her marriage to Tennis Player Pete Sampras by the way.)

Also starring in this movie is Talisa Soto-Mandylor (She  married to actor Costas Mandylor in 1997.)   She did a great job as Princess Kitana. Princess Kitana's main part in this movie is to try and make Liu Kang see his destiny and do what he is meant to do with a pure heart, not for vengence. But she only tells him what he needs to know in riddles. The rest he must figure out for himself.

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, normally a very soft spoken man in real life, brought a very powerful, and frieghtening Wizard Shao Kahn to life. His mannerisms and his words would really send a chill down your spine. He made the character so realistic, I saw adults that were even more scared than kids they brought to the movie with them who were eating Shao Kahns words up. When I left the movie, everyone was quoting Shao Kahn.

But in my opinion (Sorry Robin) Christopher Lamber Stole the show as the God of lightning, Rayden. Christopher (Best known for his leading role as Connor Macleod in Highlander 1,2,3, and now 4) Brought wit, humor and those peircing blue eyes. (and that adorable accent.) He sounded the part of Rayden, he looked the part of Rayden. He wasn't an over powering mass of muscle, nor was he the stern "god" like figure. He was a bundle of jokes, and electric energy. Only Christopher Lamber could pull off a line like "One of you three will decide the outcome of the tournament. The fate of BILLIONS depends upon you! Ha ha ha....oh sorry."

All in All this movie was on a scale of 1-10 (Ten being the best) A 10+ in my book!!!!
