MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION

Liu Kang defeated Shang Tsung, The game was over, Mortal Kombat was won by the mortals. This means that the tenth victory Outworld needed to enter earth, was forever lost. According to the rules, unless Shao Kahn won 10 straight victories, earth will not be his. Shao Kahn decided to change the rules.

Robin Shou really held his own in this movie, But Unlike the first Mortal Kombat, The movie itself had problems holding it together.   Christopher Lambert, the origional Rayden, also of Highlander and Tarzan, the Legend of Greystroke fame, was more than perfect in the role. He had that dry humor, and peircing look that gave Rayden that....electric Chemistry.

Johnny Cage was also played by a marvolous actor, lindyn Ashby. He won the hearts of fans all over the world in his role as the egotistical, yet lovable actor trying to prove his worth as a Martial Artist in real life. Sadly, Christopher Lambert was not cast as Rayden for this movie, although the new Rayden was also played by a talented actor, it didn't have the same effect as Chris. He didn't play off the dry humor well, he didn't have that same worldy presents, and his speeches were very dull, It just lacked the luster Lambert brought to the part.  And Johnny Cage, dies sadly within a short time at the beginning of the movie. So you hardly know it isn't the wonderful Linden Ashby portraying our sun glass wearing hero. Although it was a smashing look alike. I even had to do a double take.

Sonya is also played by a new actress, Sandra Hess. no word on why there was no Bridgette Wilson. and now Introduced were new Characters, Kitana's Twin sister Mileena, the two Hidden Characters in MK2, and then characters in MK3 the video games, Jade and Smoke....It just lost it's flavor to me. The characters weren't very well developed, and neither was the plot. Jade first tries to Kill Liu Kang, then he trusts her completely with his life, and 5 minutes later is shocked beyond belief that this complete stranger who tried to kill him before, betrays him.

But like I said, Robin Shou fans like me should see it over and over cause Robin was Not only great once again, with even new and more spectacular moves, but he he looked great!! The really bad parts were Rayden, the acting and the use of that video game cry he yells that sounds like "I got a job" or something. Shao Khan was a tad tweerpy, a real daddy's boy. He seemed like a whiney brat who did what he could to please daddy. not at all a strong emperor, destroyer of world's type.  Mileena kicked the bucket before anything about her was introduced. So on and so forth. But Robin was great. The writers could have done a better job developing characters, it seemed they threw in moves from the video game just to throw them in there. Unlike in the first MK, where it was more subtle, it seemed too obvious in this movie. The special effects were terrible compared to the first film, but because Robin Rocks as usual, and for the most part with the script they had to go on, the cast did the best the could...I gave the movie,

7 out of 10.
