Introduction |

|
The rainforest is a dense jungle of plants and animals. The plants are so thick that they seem to form different layers. Each layer of the rainforest is home to thousands of interesting insects and animals. We are going to explore the tropical rainforests to discover all the amazing facts about the plants and animals that live there. |

The Task |
|
|
|
We will begin our quest by Reading The Umbrella by Jan Brett. Be sure to look carefully at the beautiful illustrations and think about all the amazing information you would like to learn. As your expeditions continues throughout the rainforest you will gain knowledge and understanding of the mysterious and amazing Amazon. You will work in groups to complete each activity, and share the information you have recorded with the class. |

1. Layers of the Rainforest
*Create an illustration of the rainforest.
*Label each layer.
* Write a sentence describing each layer.

* Follow these directions to complete the map of the rainforest:
- Color the rainforests of the world green.
- Color the rest of the earth's land yellow.
- Color the oceans sea's and lakes blue.

3. Animals of the Rainforests
* Each group will choose an animal of the rainforest to research.
*Add a picture to your illustration in the correct strata in which that animal would live.
*Cut out pictures of the types of food it would eat.

Evaluation |

Students will complete the rainforest picture quiz. A picture of the rainforest will appear upon correct completion of the quiz. Additional quizzes are available for the student's that are ready for the challenge. |
